Accommodation

Accommodation will be at the Adare Country House B&B. Attention to detail and the personal warmth of the owners will make you comfortable from the moment you walk in the front door.

Program

The husband and wife team of Sue and Dan Foley cater to folks looking to work on the basics or have a week on the formidable cross-country course. The week of training includes several hours each day, as well as the chance to enjoy some active and fun trail rides in the surrounding countryside.

Riding center

Clonshire Equestrian Centre includes multiple indoor and outdoor arenas, an outdoor stadium jump course, cross-country courses, and boarding for 75+ horses. The horses are Irish Draft / Irish Sport horses or Connemara ponies, all very athletic, willing, and well-trained.

You will have the opportunity to ride several different horses a day. The multiple cross-country courses feature log jumps, stone walls, varying terrain, water, and other obstacles. The days will end with a late afternoon hack out across the magical County Limerick countryside.

Training

No strict uniform for riding is required, but all riders should be neatly turned out. Riders can wear whatever is comfortable - breeches, dress boots, or chaps and paddock boots. However, a protective riding hat with a chin strap is compulsory when riding, as well as gloves and a crop, if preferred.

A back protector is recommended for jumping if you normally wear one. It is also a good idea to have a good quality raincoat or wax coat for outdoor riding, although Clonshire has an indoor arena.

Riding ability:

Beginner

You are entirely new to riding or just beginning your journey with horses. You have no or very little experience working with or around horses and have ridden little, if none.

But don’t worry! Active Riding Trips - Equestrian Vacations will have you acquainted, familiar, and mounted in no time. The best trips for you are any of their lesson programs - they cater to all ages and all ability levels.

Intermediate

You have more experience with or around horses. You’ve ridden presently or in the past and are confident at the walk, trot, and canter on a steady horse, or some extended faster cantering on easier terrain. Most of Active Riding Trips - Equestrian Vacations' rides are yours for enjoying - as they have at minimum 50% walking and 50% trotting / cantering.

Advanced

You are an experienced horse person, are comfortable and confident around horses and all aspects of tacking / untacking as necessary, as well as all riding at gaits, including long and fast canters and even some galloping.

Some of Active Riding Trips - Equestrian Vacations' advanced rides may include optional jumps along the way. The best rides for you are the safaris, the ones with longer days in the saddle, or the ones with the most varied terrain, such as in Scotland, etc.
