Imagine being on a road trip through Lapland, you have been sitting behind your steering wheel for hours and you just made a break to fill up your petrol tank, go to the toilet, have a coffee to go, and you think: "Wow, cool country!” Stop! Enjoy this cool country and dive into the forest! Fill up your own body with silence, peace, and finally, new energy. Enjoy the real Lapland by riding on a horse, making a canoe trip, and preparing lunch over the open fire. All this is possible for you with Aha Lodge's saddle and paddle program!
The Aha Lodge is framed by woods and meadows, not far from the Aha Lake, in Swedish Lapland. The sheer endless forests, the mountainous landscapes, and the wild rivers with their big salmon are very reminiscent of Alaska and that's why they like to refer to Lapland as the "Alaska of Europe".
The mountain ranges in the west are the Rockies, the Sami, the last nomads of Europe, their First Nation, the deciduous coloring in September is their Indian Summer, the ore mine Kiruna is their Klondike. Why fly so far away when Europe's Alaska, when Lapland, is right on your doorstep.
Do not forget the Vindelfjäll Nature Reserve which is located to the west of the village, is one of the largest nature reserves in Europe and the Vindelälven river is one of the last uncontaminated rivers on the continent. There is much more to discover here and Aha Lodge will gladly show it to you.
True to Aha Lodge's motto in and to live in harmony with nature, they are mindful of every detail and try to bring you as close to nature as possible. Stay a little longer so you can have time to get used to the silence and the breath of nature. A maximum of four guests allows them to serve you optimally during your stay at the lodge.
Every riding tour is private, only for you and is based on respect for nature and tranquility. When riding, Aha Lodge keeps it as the wild animals do, they just want to leave hoofprints. Aha Lodge looks for fox, reindeer, moose, or brown bear, while the eagle circles above. You do not have to be a passionate rider to join a horseback riding tour or a wildlife biologist to enjoy your stay with the lodge.
Your personal wishes are the key to a perfect holiday in Lapland, at the Aha Lodge, and with nature. They firmly believe that people need to be respectful of nature because here, in the wilds of Lapland, it is clear to all that everyone is part of it.
A self-catering cabin for two persons have a basic dry eco-toilet, bathroom with a shower, and hot and cold water in the main building. A self-catering double room in the guesthouse equipped with a shared living room, kitchen, and bathroom, shower with hot and cold water, electricity, water, and firewood.
Arrive in the afternoon at the beautifully located Aha Lodge in Swedish Lapland, close to the lakeshore and surrounded by forest and small hills. Check-in to your cabin or your little Swedish house and come down to spend your first night.
After breakfast, you will walk together to the nearby Aha Lake to start your canoe trip to the outdoor camp. Wearing life vests, you will follow the two Aha Lakes eastwards. You will leave them through an impressive small creek to reach two bigger lakes, which will lead you to the outdoor camp.
After an extended lunch break, the horses will be waiting for you to ride back to the Aha Lodge. With some luck, you can see a moose or reindeers, red fox, or the sea eagle. In the late afternoon, arrive at the Aha Lodge and have time to relax and overnight.
After breakfast, it would be time to say goodbye. You can also choose to stay a bit longer if you want to extend.
The Aha Lodge is located almost 300 kilometers (road kilometer) west-northwest of Umeå, in the largely unspoiled northwest of the province of Västerbotten, and belongs to the municipality, Sorsele. A road, the national road 363, a continuously paved road, leads parallel to Vindelälven (natural river) through the hilly hinterland to Sorsele.
The Aha Lodge itself is just 20 kilometers outside of Sorsele, very close to the Aha Lake on the edge of the village of Aha. Nine Swedish citizens and the lodge are the only year-round residents in this place amidst the wonderful nature of Swedish Lapland! Lapland (388,350 kilometers squared) is 10% larger than Germany or about 9.5 times larger than Switzerland. It lies in the extreme north of Europe, directly adjacent to the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean.
Lapland stretches across the north of the four autonomous states of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. Despite the sparse population and largely untouched nature, it offers a surprisingly good transport infrastructure. Aha Lodge is located in Swedish Lapland in the province of Västerbotten.
The main town of Umeå (84,000 inhabitants) has an international airport and the whole province (210,000 inhabitants) is crisscrossed by a network of well-developed roads. Inland Swedish air connections to Umeå exist all year round from Stockholm and Gothenburg. After Arvidsjaur, there are all year round Monday to Friday and Sunday scheduled flights from Stockholm with Nextjet, in winter, there are direct flights with FlyCar from the German airports Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt (Hahn), and Hanover.
In the summer of 2018, there will be additional charter flights from Holland to Skellefteå for the first time. By land, three well-developed roads lead from the south to Lapland; the well-known Europastrasse 4 from Stockholm along the Baltic Sea coast and the Gulf of Bothnia to Haparanda, the Europastrasse 6 in Norway through spectacular landscapes past the North Cape to Kirkenes, and the famous Inlandsvägen, which comes from Sicily in Gothenburg Sweden and leads through impressive forest landscapes to the Finnish Karesuvanto; your alternative on the way to Aha Lodge, as it is only 12 kilometers away.
Another option is to travel by train from Stockholm to Umeå and then by bus to Sorsele or in summer, from Stockholm to Östersund and onwards with the inland train parallel to Europastraße 45 to Sorsele. In addition, the country is crisscrossed with a dense network of public bus routes that allow you to reach almost the most remote corners of Lapland with some patience.
