The accommodation is located in the Moonlight Valley in the Ben Lomond Station, Queenstown, New Zealand. Featuring double / twin en-suite rooms, Moonlight Lodge has all the modern comforts, and the beautiful setting allows you to relax, unwind, and explore the area at your leisure after your ride. Guests will stay in a private en-suite room or will have the possibility to stay in a larger bedroom with 10 beds.


Day 1

You will be meeting in the yard in the morning. After a quick debrief with the guides about the trek and safety procedure, you will meet with the horses, get some extra gear, if needed, and leave towards the lodge with your guide. You will stop for a lunch break along the river, in Moke Creek Canyon.

During the second part of the ride, you will go up and down some pretty steep hills, riding in the middle of an old gold mining area and crossing a forest before arriving at the Moonlight Lodge. Guests can discover their en-suite room, have a nice hot shower, and go for a stroll around the lodge until dinner time.

Dinner will be served, a beautiful local farm meal prepared by the owners themselves. Guests can enjoy a nice evening by the fireplace or head off to their room for a well deserved rest.

Day 2

After a beautiful breakfast, you will start the ride back to Moke Lake. The lunch break will be either by the old gold mining huts or by the lake on arrival.

Notes: Due to the nature of the terrain, Ben Lomond Horse Trekking require experienced riders only. If the track is too difficult for the rider's level, they will have to drive them to the set location. Please note that no refund will be given in that case.

Please note that they have a strict weight limit of 85 kilograms for the health and well-being of their horses. Staff will weigh all riders before the ride. If your weight exceeds the limit on the day, you will not be permitted to attend the ride and no refund will be given.




Moonlight Lodge is located deep in the Moonlight Valley, overlooking sweeping tussock terraces and stunning beech forest.


During your stay, you will be provided with delicious home cooked dinner, tasty breakfast, and lunches. The meals are home cooked only and consist of local food, farm food, and New Zealand food. Meals will be served in the common area.
