Program

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Day

  • Arrive at the station - around 1 p.m.
  • Meet and greet - meet the crew and riders
  • Meet your horse - get matched up with your pony
  • Ride to camp - join us on a ride out to camp, this gives you a chance to get to know your horse and get the saddle warmed up
  • Minimum 4 hour ride
  • Stay at the Basin Creek Hut
  • Dinner
  • Card games

Day 2

  • Breakfast at the Basin Hut - up bright and early, breakfast and get you and your horse ready for a big day on the hill
  • Climb the hat - hope on your mount and head out to the trails. You will do at least 25 kilometers of hill climbing and sightseeing around Blue Mountain Station. Views of the great divide all the way across the Canterbury Plains
  • Lunch - stop for a scenic lunch at a historical hut
  • Get back to camp - after a long day in the saddle. You will camp back at the basin hut, unsaddle the horses and get them ready for bed
  • Dinner - delicious fireside dinner under the stars
  • Camp games
  • Up to 8 hours in the saddle

Day 3

  • Breakfast at the basin hut - up bright and early, breakfast and get you and your horse ready for a big day on the hill
  • Explore the Andrews - you will make your way to the native gulleys of Blue Mountain Station, stopping at historical huts and seeing the native wildlife
  • Lunch - stop for a scenic lunch along the way
  • Cook Shop - return back to the heart of the station to stay at a traditional New Zealand cottage for a hot shower and to put the ponies to bed
  • Up to 6 hours in the saddle
  • Dinner - have dinner at the homestead with the farm owners, learn some of the rich history
  • Wool shed tour - an evening wool shed tour after dinner, learn about the new zealand wool industry and the quality of wool produced

Day 4

  • Breakfast at the Cook Shop - delicious breakfast in the wool shed
  • Saddle up - get back in the saddle for a river ride and explore the tussock country of northwest side of blue mountain station
  • Lunch at the lake - a beautiful lunch by a private lake
  • Pony swim - swim the ponies in the lake, and play pony games on the lawn
  • Up to 5 hours in the saddle
  • 4-course dinner - a locally sourced 4-course dinner at the lake to celebrate the ride

Day 5

  • Pack your bags - return home by 10:00 a.m.
  • 1.5 hours in the saddle
  • Head home with the horses
  • Final goodbyes - say goodbye to the crew, your new-found friends, and group photos

Horse Trek

  • Fully guided horse trek for a real high-country experience
  • A full team of cowgirls/guys will be there to assist you throughout your trip
  • Stay out at camp for several nights and finish with a luxury stay at a private lake

Rider Requirements

  • Only intermediate to experienced riders can book this horse trek
  • All riders must be physically fit at the time of the horse trek
  • All riders must be able to walk downhill
  • All riders must be comfortable at walk, trot and canter

  • Must be comfortable to ride for up to 25 kilometers per day
  • Up to 8 hours in the saddle daily
  • This package is not suitable for persons under 18 years of age

Blue Mountain Station is a short 30 minute drive from Fairlie. The farm is a pristine, privately owned station in the Four Peak Range. 9500ha to explore on horse back with endless mountain ranges and river crosses to explore.

  • Hire a car at the airport and drive to Blue Mountain Station.
  • Jump on a bus to Fairlie. They can collect you from Fairlie.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 14% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
