You will be staying at Punta Mona Eco Lodge, which is part of an eco-compatible activity development project, with its organic farm and peculiar philosophy.

The rooms are very characteristic but certainly simple as well as the lodge itself. The bathrooms are shared and the sanitary services work with compost. You have to bring your own towel and soap

The place is in the middle of the jungle. Punta Mona is the last beach that is before reaching the territory of Panama. There are no streets, no shops, no nearby service. The fastest way to return to the inhabited towns is the boat. It is always suggested, therefore, to bring any medicine or necessary product to the client, especially if he has special demands since there is no way to get it in place.

Caribe Horse has been running since 2007 and have been growing and evolving ever since. Its name is well known among travelers and tour operators for the high quality of the services. They are dedicated to providing you with the best experience possible, with the best horses, the best equipment, and the best guides. Their horses are their family and their life, they have more than 30 years of professional experience with the horses. The guides are multi-lingual, speaking English, Spanish, Italian and Polish.

In addition to offering horseback riding tours, they also love working with the local community. They offer discounted riding lessons to the local population so that everyone has a chance to experience, learn, and fall in love with horseback riding.

Daily Schedule

Departure from Cocles at 9:30 am (crossing all the beaches in the area that are: Cocles Beach, Cocles Point, Chiquita Beach, Punta Uva Beach, Arrecife Uva Beach Pubta, Playa Grande, Manzanillo Beach and the jungle around)

Stop with lunch at Maxi restaurant in Manzanillo (it is the best known and historic restaurant in the South Caribbean). Lunch includes a full plate of the menu (excluding lobster since the cost is too variable to include it in a preventive) and soft drinks or beers. Then continue through the Manzanillo-Gandoca Wildlife Refuge, crossing the entire park with its primary jungle, until reaching Punta Mona. Gandoca Manzanillo National Refuge is a really wild place where in case of tropical storm is not possible to pass to respect the safe conditions of horses and riders.

The luggage of the clients, as well as the food of the horses, will arrive directly in Punta Mona by means of a boat. You will enjoy from an organic dinner at the lodge. In the morning, the dolphin tour awaits you (a boat with a private guide will come to Punta Mona for the clients). On the same morning, depending on the time of completion of the "dolphin tour", customers also have the opportunity to tour the organic farm of Punta Mona and around noon, the horses are ready to return.

On the way back, you will stop for lunch in Manzanillo, to arrive at the ranch between 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Note: It is important to know that the dolphin tour depends to the weather and sea condition and, like the guide of the tour explain, see dolphins is not a guarantee but most of time they use to see.

The holiday is located on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, a gem with its untouched wildlife and palm fringed pristine beaches. The ranch is based on Cocles beach, two kilometers after Puerto Viejo. Discover all the best spots with an expert guide!

You will be served daily breakfast, lunch in the restaurant, and dinner. Your typical dinner will be generally organic vegan. There will be also additional barbecue of vegetables, fish or lobster or both (depending on what the sea offers) or if the customers prefer meat such as tenderloin, ribs or chicken, you can inquire beforehand what you want to eat or if you have allergies.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at San Jose International Airport (SJO). When you arrive at San Jose you should keep in mind that Punta Mona is still a half-day journey away. Depending on what time you get in, you may want to stay the night in San Jose, some suggested places are Pangea Hostel, Back Packers Hostel, or Hotel Aranjuez.

Getting to Manzanillo

Manzanillo is the last town on the road on the way to Punta Mona. Manzanillo is an Afro-Caribbean fishing town with a gorgeous beach and a great restaurant, the famous Maxi’s.

You will want to take the bus from Puerto Viejo, catch a cab or hitch a ride. The bus is about 1 USD and the best deal, it will stop in the other beach towns (Cocles, Playa Chiquita, Punta Uva), you just have to go out to the road and flag it down during the time when it is heading to Manzanillo from Puerto Viejo.

Hitchhiking is totally acceptable, safe and common practice. If you are comfortable with this, by all means, do so, it is a fun way to meet new people! A cab is 15 to 20 USD from Puerto Viejo and great to share!

For those of you who want a boat, it is best for at least five and no more than 10 people to take it to the farm. Our boat is a minimum of $50, meaning if you are the only one on the boat it is 50 USD, if there are 5 or more it is 10 USD per person. Caribe Horse Riding Club can help you coordinate the boat when your time for arrival approaches.
