Accommodation
You will share tents with your friend, your partner, or another participant. If requested otherwise or by separate individuals, Caribou Wild Mountain Tours will likely have a tent for each guest (double or single).
Program
Day 1
You'll have a hearty breakfast before orientation and safety with your horse, which will be your companion for the trip. Then, load up and drive a short distance to the trailhead, pack up horses, and head up the mountain trail, starting your wilderness journey.
As you ride up a beautiful mountain ridge, you can look behind you and see Lake Laberge below, where the Klondikers traveled to and from the goldrush town of Dawson City. As you reach the high alpine, you will settle for a lunch break overlooking spectacular views. Back on your horse, you will trek through the next mountain valley to your scenic camp for the night.
Day 2
Up to see the Yukon sun (hopefully) and have coffee or tea around the fire. After a healthy breakfast, saddle your own horse and follow the pack train through the mountain valley, over Flat Creek Pass, and see the local moose that are often around, as well as mountain sheep and maybe a grizzly bear. You will make camp below a mountain with many sheep trails.
Day 3
This will be a day to sleep in and rest up. You'll also have an opportunity to hike up the sheep trails and spot for Dall sheep and grizzly bears.
Day 4
Pick up camp after breakfast, follow the pack train beside Pilot Mountain, and see the Dall sheep that frequent the area. Moose and grizzly bears are often seen as well. Settle into a cozy camp by Pilot Mountain.
Day 5
Up at a decent time, enjoy a hearty breakfast and get ready for an adventurous day. You will travel through a more beautiful country that will eventually meet up with where you had lunch on the first day. After you enjoy the high country for the last time this trip, you will descend back down the mountain, back to the trailhead.
Please note that this tour is not like traveling on a clean park trail with wood chips. There are wild trails that involve steep inclines, rocky terrain, hummocky terrain, river crossings, willow patches, rain, and even snow. You must be physically fit, want to have and enjoy a wilderness experience, and be comfortable around horses.
