You will be staying on-site at Cornish Riding Holidays / Wheal Buller Riding School in a four-bedded en-suite room.
This adult horse riding holiday program will include lessons / hacking, cross country, beach riding, and swimming with your horse. You will enjoy riding your horseback for five hours a day. During the holiday, you can also have group lessons in dressage, cross country, show jumping or side saddle indoors or out, ride on the beach, and hack around Carn Brea Castle or on one of the many coasts to coast bridle paths. At no extra cost, you can also train for your Association of British Riding Schools (ABRS) equitation tests.
Should you want more specific training, you can also book private lessons in addition to the group lessons that you will get. You can do the day ride to Devoran which meanders through the Poldice Valley or enjoy a fun ride along the four miles of golden sand on the beautiful Gwithian Beach as well. The next day, you could learn how to swim on your horse on Carn Marth or you could take part in your first competition day. All this can be decided by you when you talk with one of the staff each evening and work out your program for the next day.
The final program will be decided at the end of each day when one of the instructors sits down and discusses it with you. All lessons will be given by friendly, energetic, and approved instructors who are delighted to teach anyone from total beginners to competition riders. Teaching is carried out in the full size, purpose-built indoor, and international size outdoor arena. There is a full course of jumps for those who wish to improve their show jumping and for the more confident there are more challenging obstacles and combinations in the open fields which make up Cornish Riding Holidays / Wheal Buller Riding School's cross country course.
Furthermore, during the holiday, you can bring your own horse or ride Cornish Riding Holidays / Wheal Buller Riding School’s horse. They have a large selection of horses and ponies (around 50 breeds) both native and European that are schooled to a high standard. Many have been competition horses winning in many different spheres, even competing and winning with the British Team abroad. If you wish, you can also help with feeding, grooming, and tacking up of the horses, or if you prefer you can have it all done for you by the staff.
Cornish Riding Holidays / Wheal Buller Riding School is set within the World Heritage site of the Mineral Tramways and in an area of outstanding natural beauty with panoramic views extending to the sea. It is located in a part of Cornwall where it is just 11 miles from the North to the South coast. There are a lot of stately homes and gardens nearby such as Eden Project, Maritime Museum, St. Micheals Mount, Lands End, Pendennis, St. Mawes and St. Catherines Castles, and Mineral Tramways.
This rural setting, amid quiet fields, and rugged hills provides a relaxing retreat from the pressure of work and daily life. Cornwall is just one and a half miles from the small tin mining town of Redruth. In Redruth, there is an assortment of shops where you should be able to buy all you may need and there is also a selection of country pubs for a quiet drink in the evening in Redruth.
You will be served breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Cold meat and vegetarian alternatives are available each day. For breakfast, you can help yourself to a selection of cereals, porridge, rolls, cheese, yogurt, orange juice, fresh fruit, brown or white toast, jams, marmalade, and honey. For lunch, you will savor a fresh homemade soup of the day. There will also be a selection of salads, green, coleslaw, pasta, and rice. There are also fresh rolls and one of the following: quiche, pastries, baked potatoes with fillings, tagliatelle, pizza, chicken pies, giant spring rolls, cheese, and red pepper rolls.
You may also have a packed lunch for the day ride with a selection of scones and cakes. Moreover, from Monday to Friday, you will be served one of the following for dinner: cottage pie, lasagna with chips or boiled potatoes, chicken casserole with rice, spaghetti bolognese, or fish and chips. All meals will be served with two vegetables. For the alternatives, there are omelets, pork chops, beef casserole, or sausage and onions.
In addition, the Sunday roast dinner will include beef or chicken, two vegetables, roast and boiled potatoes, as well as Yorkshire puddings and gravy. For vegetarians, there will be a nut roast, homemade apple crumbles, pie with custard or clotted cream, ice cream, cheese, biscuits, and fresh fruit. There will also be chocolate fudge cake, cheesecake, chocolate roll with chocolate custard, strawberry gateau, and rhubarb crumble and custard.
