Cortijo El Chenil Caballos live on the edge of a natural park with mountains and valleys so their track types vary widely: they have dirt tracks, mountain tracks, river beds, fields, forests, woodland, and olive groves.
On your arrival at the retreat, you will be shown to your room and then invited to join Cortijo El Chenil Caballos for your induction. This will be an opportunity to meet the other riders and for Cortijo El Chenil Caballos to discover what your aspirations are and what you are hoping to get out of your holiday with them.
You will discuss the possible routes and decide a plan based upon everyone's abilities and requirements. They will then go through all of the safety requirements, assess your ability, and assign you a horse.
You will enjoy three days of riding on your five-day holiday. Cortijo El Chenil Caballos prefer to keep groups small as they feel this promotes a friendly atmosphere and ensures everyone gets the attention they deserve.
On riding days, you will generally go out on a morning or evening hack for up to four hours. Cortijo El Chenil Caballos encourage all riders to take part in grooming and tacking up as they feel this helps you develop a relationship with your horse and helps you get more out of your experience.
The schedule is not set in stone as they feel they have so many routes and options to choose from they can tailor it to the individual needs of the riders. Lessons are provided based upon requirements, the horses are very safe and relaxed but the routes are not suited to beginners due to the terrain, it is therefore sometime necessary to exchange riding time for lessons in order to ensure the safety of the riders and the horses and to ensure each individual gets the most out of their time with us.
On your hacks, you will explore the local countryside, including the mountains, the olive groves, rivers, and local villages, you can enjoy tapas at a local bar or a picnic in the mountains. The location means whichever direction you ride, you will be guaranteed breathtaking views and beautiful tranquil countryside with plenty of photo opportunities along the way.
Darren carries out all lessons according to your individual requirements. Nervous or less capable riders will be schooled in the arena, focusing on improving their skills and confidence so as they can fully enjoy the hacks, relaxing into the riding and appreciating the experience.

Darren left home at the tender age of 15 to pursue a career in Racing. At 18, he was encouraged to apply for his jockey license and rode his first winner as less than 3 months after his first public ride. In a career that spanned more than 20 years, he rode in excess of 600 winners worldwide including 231 at home with his best year seeing him ride an incredible 61 winners. His career saw him race all over Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, and America and he worked with many of the worlds best trainers and stables including working at Godolphin during a golden period.
Andalucia is widely considered to be one of the most romantic regions in Spain. Its rich history and culture, mountainous backdrop littered with whitewashed villages, and the scent of orange blossom provide the perfect setting for a memorable holiday. And of course, the all year round mild climate means it is one of the most popular destinations for those who enjoy both summer and winter sun vacations.
