Fueling yourself with a sumptuous breakfast, you embark on a horseback expedition, traversing awe-inspiring panoramas of woodlands, rolling hills, and vineyards that offer vistas beyond compare.

Each day unfolds with immersive encounters at quintessential locales, predominantly run by storied families, where the exclusivity and authenticity of these venues illuminate the daily rhythms and heritage of the region. From charming farmhouses to ancestral vineyards and even a medieval Abbey, every stop paints a vivid portrait of tradition and local life.

The culminating point of your journey awaits at Cantina Ulmo, part of the esteemed Planeta Company, where the renowned family upholds ancient traditions of hospitality. Wander through their cellars, indulging in the sheer uniqueness of Sicilian wines paired with delectable local cuisine, a fitting conclusion to your odyssey through Sicily's wine country.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and welcome at Tenuta Regaleali Tasca d’Almerita

Upon arrival after lunch, immerse yourself in the warm hospitality of Tenuta Regaleali, your first vineyard. Check-in to your accommodations and acquaint yourself with the surroundings. In the afternoon, indulge in a test ride to familiarize yourself with the horses and fellow riders, followed by a captivating visit to the cellar for a technical tasting of 5 exquisite wines. Enjoy a delightful dinner and settle in for the night.

Day 2: Regaleali to Masseria Acque di Palermo via Roccapalumba

Start your day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a picturesque journey towards Roccapalumba. Traverse mountains and vineyards, relishing a tranquil picnic amidst nature. Arrive at the historic Masseria Acque di Palermo, owned by the esteemed Morello family. Explore the farm, delving into its rich history and operations. Enjoy a typical dinner and a restful overnight stay.

Day 3: Masseria Morello to Borgo Riena via Lercara Friddi

After a fulfilling breakfast, resume your journey westward. Traverse through three municipalities - Roccapalumba, Lercara Friddi, and Castronovo di Sicilia. Pause for a satisfying lunch in Lercara Friddi before reaching the ancient Borgo Riena, nestled amidst Castronovo di Sicilia. Enjoy the hospitality of Casale Riena farmhouse amid a stunning natural setting. Conclude the day with dinner and a cozy overnight stay.

Day 4: Casale Riena to Traina Agricultural Company via Monte Carcaci Natural Reserve

Saddle up and venture through the Monte Carcaci Natural Reserve, then head towards the Traina agricultural company in the Sosio Valley. Pause for lunch by the Sosio river before arriving at the Traina family-owned establishment. Unwind, explore the facilities, and take a guided tour of Palazzo Adriano. Relish an aperitif in the town square and indulge in a convivial dinner within the old railway toll booth. Retreat for a relaxing overnight stay.

Day 5: Traina agricultural company to Abbazia di Santa Maria del Bosco via Campofiorito

After breakfast, travel above Lake Raia through fields and mountains to Campofiorito near Corleone. Pause for lunch at an ancient farmhouse before continuing along the disused railway line to the Medieval Abbey of S. Maria del Bosco. Enjoy an aperitif and a guided tour of the Abbey upon arrival. Conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Abbey to Tenuta Ulmo Planeta via Monte Genuardo Natural Reserve and Sambuca Di Sicilia

Embark on the final leg of the wine route, journeying through the dense forests of Monte Genoardo Nature Reserve and reaching a breathtaking panoramic viewpoint. Enjoy lunch at a family-run farm amidst pine forests in Sambuca Di Sicilia. Traverse the Planeta family vineyards to reach the historic Ulmo Estate and explore their cellar. Bid farewell to the horses, and you will be returning home via van. Relax and transfer to the Planeta Estate Foresteria in Menfi for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7: Farewells and airport return

Conclude your journey with a final breakfast before departing for home.

Pre-arrival preparation

If you haven't been in the saddle for an extended period, Dharma Consulting recommends getting back on the horse 3 or 4 times before your trip. This will help train your muscles for an extended duration on horseback. Take the opportunity to review your equestrian skills, including posting trot, maintaining balance on stirrups, and using gentle hands. This pre-trip preparation ensures a more enjoyable and comfortable riding experience during your adventure.

As you journey westward, the route winds through Monte Carcaci Natural Reserve, leading to the Traina Agricultural Company in the Sosio Valley. Your path then meanders through Campofiorito and the Monte Genoardo Natural Reserve, offering panoramic vistas of Lake Arancio and the Mediterranean Sea.

Culminating in Sambuca Di Sicilia, the tour brings you to renowned vineyards like Planeta and Ulmo, offering an intimate glimpse into Sicily's winemaking legacy. Finally, the experience crescendos with a night's stay at a venerable 13th-century medieval Abbey, steeped in the whispers of centuries past.
