Program

Day 1

  • 13:30 Arrive at stables
  • 14:00-16:00 Lesson and ride

On day one, you will need to arrive at the stables at 13:30, where Donegal Equestrian Centre will introduce you to your horse and instructor for the afternoon. You will learn the basics of how to tie up, groom, and tack up your horse before the ride. This will be followed by a lesson in the arena where you will receive instruction in controlling your horse and getting the feel of him before your first ride out. If you are feeling confident, you will be given the opportunity to try rising trot.

Day 2

  • 10:00-12:00 Preparation and ride

On day two, you help to groom and tack up your horse and after a quick refresher, you set off on your beach / dune ride. Once again, this will be an instructional but relaxing ride, with plenty of time to enjoy the spectacular scenery. There will be several opportunities to practice your rising trot for those who would like to and to canter if you are able.

Day 3

  • 10:00-12:00 Preparation and ride

On day three, you help to get your new friend / horse ready for a final an hour and a half to two hours of beach ride, with more opportunities to practice your new and improved skills.

Note: Times can be flexible by prior arrangement.

Further information

Horses are not led on the beach (unless by special arrangement) and you must be able and confident to ride a quiet horse at a walk to ride out. Your safety is important to Donegal Equestrian Centre, please do not over-estimate your ability.

All Donegal Equestrian Centre horses are ridden English style with English saddles and bridles. If you have only Western-type saddle experience, you will be considered a beginner / novice rider unless you have taken English-seat riding lessons. For any advanced beach rides, riders need to be familiar with English saddles and be able to rise (post) to the trot and canter.

Donegal Equestrian Centre upper weight limit is 230 pounds, 16 and a half stones, or 105 kilograms. For safety and horse welfare reasons, Donegal Equestrian Centre is unable to accept riders over this weight.

Location

Donegal Equestrian Centre is situated one mile from the center of Bundoran in the beautiful northwest coast of Ireland, which is the perfect location for all your horse riding activities.
