"What an amazing break!"

West Lynch Farm is a stunning farmhouse set in an incredible landscape, it feels so organic, full of history and is very well taken care of. Cathy the host is so knowledgeable and keen to share her experiences of working with horses, many of whom come from difficult backgrounds; she employs a holistic horse-led approach to training her horses, which is evident in their kind trusting natures and willingness to work alongside the rider. More than that, she is kind, empathic and very intuitive, picking up on rider needs and carefully selecting a horse to suit each individual. I loved all my rides and Jess took us out on different routes each day. To be honest its hard to find anything I didnt like, my experience was so much more than I could ever have hoped for and is already bringing about long lasting changes in the way I live my life. Thank you!

"Incredibly relaxing and beautiful holiday"

The location is fantastic with short walks to the beach and various routes on the moor. The workshop with Cathy was a highlight and it was wonderful to learn more about how the horses are lovingly raised. Beautiful, calm horses and the atmosphere with all the animals was really one to remember. The hacks were fantastic with a variety of different terrains and views of Exmoor. An all-round 5 star experience.

"The Horse Whisperer"

We booked last minute after a Spanish lockdown. My daughter rode, I read. Beautiful setting and my daughter loved each ride. Amazing trails and views. A workshop with Cathy was a total

Joy. After riding for many years and being in pony club etc my daughter said Cathy’s knowledge and empathy for the horses was like something she had never seen ! Totally amazed :) breakfast was super and the only thing I would ask for is better WiFi for us non riders :) oh and Porlock hill nearly killed me on my bike :) thanks for fitting us in Cathy:) oh and on the way home we sat for 10 minutes on the moor toll road watching a herd of Exmoor ponies getting some shade under a tree :) fabulous xx

"Great alternative horse riding experience"

I loved how the horses are trained and looked after and the workshop to bond with the horse. The location was beautiful even though the weather was not too kind. Very relaxed atmosphere, owner was very friendly and approachable and made me feel at home. Stunning horses and set up.

"Little piece of heaven "

It is hard to put into words exactly how special Exmoor Riding is. The location is beautiful, surrounded by stunning countryside and on a quiet road, Cathy’s home is postcard perfect. We felt very welcome in her beautiful and charming home. Cathy was so kind and the best host. Our breakfast and lunches were perfect. My daughter and I enjoyed 4 days riding out through the forests, villages and amazing landscapes. We saw the wild Exmoor ponies and rode through streams, fords and up and down the bridleways. The horses were so sweet and easy going with us not a novice ride but not silly. I rode Papoose and my daughter Danny. They were lovely and we wanted to bring them home! We just had the best time. We also had a natural horsemanship workshop which was so special. We learnt lots about connecting with a horse and how to work with them :) just the most wonderful time we will never forget.

"A fantastic experience! "

Gorgeous place, people, scenery and horses! These horses are really loved and well looked after. I loved spending time here and will definitely go back. Most amazing was the workshop I did with Cathy free training the horses - it was mind blowing. Also a special shout out to Abi my instructor who was great company, took gorgeous pictures and not only took me on beautiful rides but filled me in on all the local knowledge!

"Just perfect!"

Cathy was a perfect host, she made us feel so welcome.

My daughter and her friend loved helping around the farm. Jess was great she really put the girls and ease.

The horses were so well kept, you could see they were truly loved.

Cathy really listened to the girls and what type of experience they were looking for and gave them horses accordingly.

The riding was amazing really good value for money.

"Great Time"

Beautiful, well looked after horses. Different rides each day and some good canter opportunities.

Lovely location- we went walking in the afternoons each day- stunning scenery.

Very hospitable host who was happy to interact and chat with us as well as offered lunch each day for a reasonable price.

Had opportunity to fly the owls too- amazing!

"Fantastic weekend break "

We could not fault this riding break .. my daughter did two days of riding and had the best time, Cathy and her team could not be more attentive to our needs and the overall experience was fantastic. We can’t wait to return.

"A little bit of heaven "

I arrived as a solo traveller in need of a break after a stressful year. My trip was everything I hoped for. We rode in the morning and I had the afternoon and evening to explore the local area which is beautiful. Cathy is very knowledgeable and her workshop was very interesting. Would love to return in the summer when the weather is milder.

If you are looking for a place to get away from things. This is a great place to do it 🙂

"Fantastic 5 days of riding fun"

I loved my stay! Cathy was so welcoming and friendly. My room was spacious & clean but cozy - the bed was so comfy that I slept brilliantly. The cooked breakfast was delicious - great start to fuel up for horsey fun.

THE HORSES!!!! They were divine - all different & all so well loved & happy. I love going to centres were the horses are clearly loved & well looked after - Cathy certainly respects & adores all the horses & it shows in their lovely temperaments. I rode Paps, Rio & Flo in my 5 days there - I fell completely in love with Rio but really really enjoyed all my steeds. The horses I rode were all forward going & fun - they have a good range of horses for all levels of riders & preference - from steady to a bit more zippy.

The natural horsemanship workshop was brilliant - I have done work in this style before & it was great to learn more from someone so passionate. Cathy was very forgiving of my constant cuddling & kissing of Paps during the workshop (he’s too cute not to kiss).

The ride routes were all so different & really scenic. I was very lucky to ride seven times over five days & each day I had the company of experienced/intermediate riders so we could have some speedy fun. I think my favourite route was going right up to Webber’s post. Jess was a great ride leader - friendly & knowledgeable.

The relaxed atmosphere was the perfect tonic for me post COVID & I loved helping on the yard too (voluntarily) to get in more horse time. I’ll be back!

Cathy was superb: very flexible, accommodating and great with my children. The accommodation was spacious and very comfortable, and the food was excellent. The Farm is in a superb spot: close to shops, pubs and restaurants (~1 mile), and in a gorgeous valley with easy access to the surrounding hills and moorland.

Living on a farm was a wonderful experience for my children. They willingly helped out with all the chores, from ‘poo picking’ to letting out the horses at night and, a particular favourite, handling all the many chicks. From the cats, dogs and chickens to the Shire Ponies and the massive Clydesdale, all got a lot of attention from my girls. Clare, a farm hand I think, was wonderful - always making things fun and encouraging the children to explore.

Whilst not geared for the inexperienced, Cathy tried very hard to tailor the holiday to suit our ability. The morning rides were an excellent way to see the outstanding countryside. The ‘school’ sessions were ad hoc but huge value for us all and the agility work was great fun. Overall, experienced riders should not miss this fabulous opportunity; the inexperienced will love the farm and all it has to offer but will need to make clear what they hope to achieve from the outset.

"Exmoor Riding 3 day Riding Experience"

Where do I start? What an incredible trip this was! From the moment we set foot in the 15th Century house we were greeted by the amazing Cathy who was just absolutely lovely!

We arrived around 1 pm and after a hearty lunch at the house, we got ready to go out for our first hack. The weather was very wet! But, the hack went ahead and we got to explore Exmoor for 2 and a half hours. Exmoor is truly magical to go riding! Even in the pouring rain, soaked to the skin, we were having the best time. On returning we had some scones and tea in front of the fire, then we made our way into Porlock to have some dinner in 'The Ship Inn' which served amazingly good food.

Day two, wet and misty again!! But we didn't let that stop us! Another amazing ride! Walks, trots, canters......gallops! All in the mist which gave the day a magical feel. In the afternoon we were invited to do some liberty work with the horses in the school....this was just the icing on the cake. Learning to work with the horses so freely was incredible and Cathy was excellent at providing insight into both working with these horses and our own.

Day Three was finally clear!! We could see! We went up the Exmoor hills to overlook the sea, and Wales...and met the ever-inquisitive Exmoor Ponies! What a treat to ride alongside them and get so close to these magical ponies.

Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this trip in 1500 words!!

Thank you, Cathy and your team for giving us such a wonderful experience!

"Fab break"

The area is absolutely stunning, horses were fun and easy to build a bond with. Weather was rubbish one day but it didn’t spoil the experience.

I liked the way Cathy and her team were working in harmony with their horses using gentle methods and showing great empathy; also the way I was encouraged to adopt this way of relating to them. .

"Peaceful holiday!"

I loved my short holiday with Exmoor Riding this Autumn. The whole break felt very peaceful and was just what I needed. I rode a different horse each day (although I was always asked if I had a preference of who I liked, which was great) and they all had lovely personalities and temperaments. The trails were stunning and my ride leader Jess made all trips feel safe but exciting and fun. I enjoyed the workshop with the clever Paps and Archie and am very interested in learning more about this style of horsemanship. The breakfasts and coffees and afternoon cakes were delicious and the B and B was cosy and warm. I will be back in the spring or summer to experience the trails in a different season!

"A beautiful restorative break "

Everything about this holiday was perfect.

I received a really lovely welcome from Cathy and both Jess & Hayley. The accommodation was perfectly cosy and spotlessly clean and the breakfasts were delicious (thank you to Cathy’s partner!!).

I was a bit anxious about riding after having not ridden for 3 years. But felt completely put at ease after being put on lovely Tom for the first day. I think he sensed my anxiety as he was incredibly gentle and laidback and was very happy for me to plod a long at the back of the group, but I did also have a couple of lovely floaty canters on him. For the following two days I was on the slightly speedier but equally gentle Theo, who was an absolute gent and super sure footed when going down some rather steep hills.

The scenery is absolutely spectacular, and particularly at this time of year when all the leaves are changing.

My gentle horsemanship workshop with Cathy was also amazing and even a bit emotional at times. It 100% has improved my confidence with how to be around horses.

I would without a doubt recommend this experience- I came away feeling completely at peace, rested and ready to face the world. Pure soul food for horsey lovers!!!

"Riding paradise and workshop heaven."

The riding was on well mannered horses on hacks that took in stunning scenery and wonderful routes. The workshop was without a doubt a highlight I hadn't expected. It made me emotional to experience having a connection with a horse whilst free schooling and doing 'agility'. Cathy was an excellent facilitator of this for me. I would definitely recommend a stay and hope to be back there in the future.

"A perfect break "

I had a wonderful experience at exmoor riding holidays, I definitely did not want to come home! Cathy and Hayley were so welcoming and really made me feel at home during my stay. They work they do with the horses was very eye opening to me and I’d be very interested to go back and learn more!

West Lynch farm is beautiful and in an outstanding setting. Everyone we met was very kind and looked after me as a returning rider and my niece. The stables were well run and the horses very well cared for. Our rides were great and varied. I really enjoyed the workshop, working in hand with the horses, I learnt a lot. I hope we will go back.

"Wonderful horse riding trip"

Booked a trip for my daughters 18th birthday. Arrived late afternoon on a Friday. Greeted by Cathy who was very welcoming. Rode on Saturday morning with Hayley, who is a lovely person, very experienced and made our 1st trek on Exmoor a fantastic experience. We also took part in a gentle horse & rider workshop with Cathy in which we learnt lots of new ways to interact with our horse. Overall we had a very enjoyable visit and will definitely be back.

"Lovely place to learn about barefoot and bitless riding"

I loved spending time with the horses, and learning from their barefoot trimmer Clive. Many thanks to him for giving me so much brilliant information about horses hooves, and so much more. If you're interested in barefoot, you need to talk to him, he's an amazing guy! Also good to see a Dr Cook's bitless bridle in action and to talk with Cathy about bitless and bitted bridles and learn from her wisdom. And the scenery is amazing. Love Exmoor! And thank you to Jean and Clare who took the ride out on Sunday, lovely to spend time with them.

"Winter riding break"

I really liked the natural and cognitive horsemanship style used. Horses are not forced to work and they do it as they love it.

Great rides with canter/gallop tracks for advanced riders. Relaxing farm house, friendly and caring staff and lovely owls and hawks.
