Horse Riding Holiday in USA

This ride is nothing if not an adventure! The rugged Wyoming landscape has always called out to the adventurous hearts, beckoning them to roam the mountains on horseback, dip beneath the whispering pines and find that piece of the soul that lingers on tall mountain tops. Horseback ride over wind-swept trails on the seasoned, hard-working horses while you reconnect and take in the breathtaking sights. Your experienced guides will guide you in exploring the majesty of Wyoming’s Gros Ventre Wilderness, seeing this country much the same as the ancestors long before you. The land you’ll see when riding with GRBTO is undeveloped, conducted entirely in National Forest and wilderness. And you won’t find any nose-to-tail rides here–all of your rides take place on varied trails that demand the rider participate and ultimately improve their horse skills.

During the holiday, you will stay at the historic Craig Cabin Camp. The solitude and tranquility of Jack Creek Camp, recently added to the National Registry of Historic Places, are sure to provide an unforgettable backdrop for your wilderness adventure.

This pristine wilderness in the southern part of the Gros Ventre Mountains is largely untraveled and held in high regard by the locals. The scenic horseback rides, hiking, wildlife photography trips, and winter activities feature this historic site, which was built by a fur trapper and is adjacent to an ancient Indian trail.

Whether you use it for a base camp to return to each evening, stay here for several peaceful nights, or just visit for an afternoon, it is sure to leave a lasting impression.

You will overnight in furnished tents or teepees. Each is equipped with cots and pads, rugs, tables, chairs, lanterns and heat. The cabin and other amenities provide extra comforts to help make your stay luxurious.

Just 40 miles south of Jackson, Wyoming, Green River & Bridger-Teton Outfitters, LLC's cabins in Wyoming sit in the heart of the Bridger-Teton National Forest at the base of the spectacular Gros Ventre Wilderness Area. Nearby, the clear, sparkling waters of Jack Creek parallel an ancient Indian trail, which, in decades past, was an important migration route between the Tetons and the headwaters of the Green River.

In October 2016, the Craig Cabin Site was added to the National Registry of Historic Places! The Jack Creek camp is a wonderful place to “come home” to. The camp is designed to suit everyone and will most assuredly make many happy memories.

The Craig Cabin camp is equipped with a shower, a wilderness sauna, an outhouse, a cold water "sluice" shower, a horseshoe pit, a tomahawk target, a comfortable hammock, plus equipment for other activities. There are trails to wander, streams to wade in, and beauty everywhere you look. So whether you are playing or relaxing, the camp has it all.

Sometimes a little is not enough. This trip offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the glory of the Wyoming wilderness plus the convenience and comfort of a permanent, near luxurious camp. Stay for three nights, utilizing a unique historical cabin surrounded by tipis and wall tents. Bring a group made up of family, friends, or coworkers or maybe join up with another party and create friendships that will last a lifetime!

Fill your days with not only horseback riding, but also photography, hiking, and wildlife watching. Green River & Bridger-Teton Outfitters, LLC provides delicious homemade meals and try their best to make your stay as rewarding as possible.

Their horseback rides are for buckaroos 8 years and over and before every trip they give a short, informative “preride talk” to help your ride be as safe and fun as possible. A start time of 10 a.m. allows you to have your lunch at the historic cabin and then head out to ride the afternoon away if you want.

The itinerary is relatively flexible. You can ride anywhere from 3 to 7 hours daily. Folks can even choose to not ride, but rather stay at camp and relax. The program can highlight different areas: high country, wildlife watching, etc. that you discuss each day along with preferred riding time to determine what you want to do.

You’ll have a hardy breakfast at camp, then a packed lunch for your rides each day. Enjoy home-style hearty dinners, including grilled meat and homemade desserts.

Skill level

For all rides, after a discussion, the guide will match riders and horse base on their ability. Green River & Bridger-Teton Outfitters keeps a variety of "spirit" in their string so they can meet different abilities. They also do a pre-ride lesson / talk about riding in general and the realities of riding in the terrain.
