Waiiti Farmstay is a true alternative nature escape offering seclusion and privacy, a tranquil retreat to unwind and relax after a great day in the saddle! Experience total peace and quiet with an abundance of birdlife thriving in the Waiiti microclimate and numerous farm animals/pets to interact with. The accommodation has three baches, elevated bush-clad valley with panoramic sea views, and breathtaking sunsets. Glamp in a tidy bush bach, nicely furnished with quality beds, all with full bedding/linen provided; very clean and comfortable, set apart from each other, all with awesome views:

  • Bach Kiwi: Queen Bed
  • Bach Tui: King Bed
  • Bach Morepork: Single Beds

Meander up the cobbled pathways to find:

  • a separate kitchen hut fully kitted with a barbecue facility, gas cookers, fridge, running water with tub, prep table, utensils, etc.
  • hot shower
  • composting toilet
  • picnic area with a viewing deck

The accommodation is more suited to the mobile active person as there are steps and uneven pathways. The facilities are separated from the bach, offering two kitchens, two hot showers, and toilets. Gas will be available for you to cook with all kitchens fully kitted for your convenience.

Your accommodation booking is exclusive so you will have space for yourself; whether you have booked just one bach or more. Waiiti Farmstay is fully self-sufficient, powered by solar energy (backed up by generator) and with gas hot water. Please note that there a one-off charge of 15 NZD cleaning fee applies to all bookings.

Program

Have a relaxed start by preparing your own breakfast in the fully kitted kitchen facilities. You will then leave for your horse ride in the morning, your departure time and return will depend on the option you have chosen. Lunch will be provided and for longer rides, snacks as well.

Upon your return, you may cook your evening meal in the camp kitchens or you may like to meet the locals and sample Waiiti cuisine at a beachfront cafe only a two-minute drive away or a country cafe/bar, only a 10-minute drive.

Horse Trek’n Taranaki caters for the individual rider, couples, families, through to groups of up to 10 riders and from novice to all levels of expertise. Your ride will take you along open fields, picturesque farm tracks, bush tracks, and may also incorporate a beach ride and cliff top. Your trail will depend on how long a trek you have chosen.

The goodwill of neighbors has allowed access to extend well beyond the Horse Trek’n Taranaki property, encompassing a wide and varied range of options and private beach access. Riders have the opportunity to see not only farm animals but also interact with pet goats and sheep and very occasionally, startle a wild pig. There is also an abundance of diverse birdlife featuring Hawks, Rosellas, Pheasants, and Peacocks.

Each trek will commence with a short lesson to build your confidence and to establish your experience. Your enjoyment is a priority and therefore, the trail selected will reflect your ability. The use of Waiiti Farmstay bach facilities are available should you wish to extend your visit and enjoy the viewing deck and picnic area, use the barbecue and kitchen hut or extend your stay further and book into a bach for the evening.

Safety Instructions and Appropriate Clothing

  • Riding Helmets will be personally fitted and are mandatory to be worn.
  • All treks are guided, a ratio of one guide to a maximum of five riders is maintained, larger groups of up to 10 riders will have two guides.

  • Your guide will carry water should you become thirsty during your horse trek.
  • It is not advisable to carry a mobile phone or camera on you, as these may become a distraction, it is preferable that you hold onto your reins and concentrate on your horse. There is also a high risk of loss or damage.
  • Your guide will take photos of you during the trek which will be supplied to you within two days after your trek and are complimentary. Unless advised otherwise, these pictures may also appear on the Facebook page.
  • Your guide will carry a mobile phone for any emergency calls, as well as a first aid kit.
  • Sunblock in all seasons is necessary as you will be exposed to the weather.
  • It is recommended that you wear long pants that cover your ankles and long sleeves as it is possible that you will pass by gorse. Appropriate footwear would be gumboots, boots, or covered shoes with socks that cover your ankles, a shoe with a small heel is ideal.
  • You will be warned once only with any abuse or disrespect to your horse, if it continues, you will be instructed to dismount and walk, there will be no refund.
