Come ride along the beautiful peninsula of Snæfellsnes, Iceland, with Horseback Riding Iceland. In this fantastic horse riding holiday, you will see the beauty of Icelandic nature from the ancient lava fields, mountains, and the waterfalls. You will ride on the Löngufjörur which is a mirror-like beach during the spring tide as well as the incredible lava field of Búðahraun. Join this holiday and live the Icelandic way of life on a horseback!
Horseback Riding Iceland's beautiful new guesthouse has double and single rooms with private bathrooms. Each room has great views and a skylight over the bed. The living room is a cozy hall where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the glacier. A great outdoor area with fabulous views of the sea and the glacier as well as a hot tub. The guesthouse's atmosphere will give you a little bit of luxury during your stay.
You will ride in small groups along the beautiful coastline of Southern Snaefellsnes. You will trail from Gröf through a magical, ever-changing landscape from rough lava, over sparkling streams and rivers, to white sandy beaches until we reach Löngufjörur, one of the longest beaches in Iceland at spring tide. At the time of spring tide, even more of the sand is exposed and the ground is softer.
There, you can ride for hours on the famous smooth gait tölt unique to Icelandic horses and the horses can really show their worth running free without any obstacles to slow them down. Horseback Riding Iceland's horses are fast and surefooted, very gentle, friendly, and always “ready to go”. Most of them are born and raised on Horseback Riding Iceland's farm by their first price mares.
After a long and exciting day in the saddle, it’s good to come "home" and relax with a book, watch a movie, or sitting on the sofa talking with your fellow riders or with Viska, Horseback Riding Iceland's sweet dog while enjoying the fabulous view. You can also check your email or tell your friends about your day on social media while at the same time smelling the delicious food being cooked for you. On top of that, nothing is better then a relaxing soak in our hot tub with the sound of the sea, a beautiful sunset, a sky full of stars, or even if you’re lucky, the amazing northern lights in September.
You will be picked up at BSI Reykjavik no later than 17:00. You will arrive at Gröf at approximately two and a half or three hours later. After settling in and enjoy a light meal, it will be time for you to meet the horses. You will have a riding tour along the light sandy beach of Gröf to get to know the horses.
For the next three days, you will ride from Gröf through a breathtaking and ever-changing landscape. From the sandy beach of Gröf through rough lava of Búðahraun and over sparkling streams and rivers until you reach the golden, sandy coastline of Löngufjörur. One of the highlights of this tour is to tölt on the smooth trail of Löngufjörur that is only revealed by the low tide.
It will be as thrilling and exciting for the horses as the riders when the horses can run free without any obstacles to slow them down with a view of the strikingly beautiful glacier Snaefellsjökull. This will be a roundtrip tour but at the end of each riding day, you will return to Horseback Riding Iceland's farm of Gröf while the horses stay on a field where you will be stopping for the day.
