Rancho Santana is a rustic accommodation in the beautiful countryside of Chiclayo, Lambayeuqe. The lodging hostel was made from mudbricks in the style of the Moche culture and Sicán houses. It has a large bathroom with a shower (hot water), a double bed, and a bunk bed. There is also a small garden with hammocks.
Program
Day 1
you will be picked up at the airport, bus station, or a hotel in the town of Chiclayo. Then, you will do a small tour program to learn and to get used to riding a Peruvian Paso horse.
Day 2: Historical Sanctuary of Pómac Forest (Batangrande)
Starting from the town of Pacora, you will ride through the largest dry forest in the world, the historical sanctuary of Pomac and you will also visit the temple of the Lord of Sican (Batangrande) Huaca Sontillo. From above the temple, you can appreciate a beautiful view over the forest and the pyramids.

Day 3: Huaca Flag
Starting from the town of Pacora (Rancho Santana), you will ride towards the archaeological zone of Huaca Bandera where the last temple of the Moche culture is located.

Day 4: Pomac Forest (Batangrande)
Starting from the town of Pacora, you will ride through the largest dry forest in the world, the historical sanctuary of Pomac and visit the Temple of the Lord of Sicán (Batangrande) Huaca Sontillo. From above the temple, you can appreciate a beautiful view over the forest and the pyramids. Then, you will continue riding towards the temples Lerchanlech, Huaca Las Ventanas, and Huaca de Oro where the tomb of the Lord of Sicán was found.

Day 5
- On this day, you will visit the town of Chiclayo and the world famous museum of the treasures of "Lord of Sipan" (The Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipan).
Day 6
You will do a five-hour ride to the Moche-Inca temple of Jotorro. The Jotoro archaeological complex is considered one of the most important archaeological sites of Lambayeque where the Mochica-Inca culture was developed in the years 1350 AD. In this place, an Inca military fortress is built, which is constituted by a rock formation known as Cerro Jotoro on which and around it the archaeological evidence is distributed.
Day 7
You will be riding along beautiful paths and agriculture fields. In the afternoon, you are going to visit the Tucume pyramids and the site museum and then climb up to the Cerro Purgatorio viewpoint where you can appreciate the 26 temples of "ancient Peru" and the landscape. That is considered as the largest and most unique place in South America which are located around a magical and sacred mountain with 26 buildings over an area of 220 hectares.
The Peruvian Paso Horse
The Peruvian Paso horse is arguably the smoothest riding horse in the world. Its endurance and willingness to work, not to mention its extremely comfortable gait, makes hours in the saddle pure pleasure. The Peruvian Paso horse is considered as a cultural heritage of Peru by the National Institute of Culture and the breed is protected by law since November 1992. The horses are willing to please and are well prepared to take you on an equestrian journey of a lifetime. Rancho Santana invites you to discover the magic of the Peruvian Paso horse and the grandeur of its native land.
The typical Peruvian tack / saddle
The saddle consists of a wooden frame (saddle tree) with a moderately high pommel and cantle. The tree is covered with tight-fitting pieces of rawhide, with the cinch, stirrups, crupper, breeching buckles and straps attached to the frame. To make the saddle more comfortable and protect the rider’s legs from rubbing against the buckles and straps, leather skirts are usually placed over the saddle tree and around the pommel and cantle. These skirts are often embossed with the beautiful designs for which Peruvian leather artisans have become famous.
The Peruvian horse-riding tack, as well as that used by horsemen throughout the American continent, has its origin in fifteenth-century Europe. Peruvian tack consists of the saddle, its accessories (cinch, stirrups, crupper, and breaching), and braided headgear.
Location
This holiday will take place in Chiclayo, Peru. Rancho Santana will be the starting point for the tour. Riding a horse in Peru a way of appreciating the beautiful nature and culture of its land. During the tour, you will visit several places such as the witch market, beach of Pimentel, Pomac Forest, the pyramids of Tucume, and Huaca Bandera.
Witch market
This is one of Peru’s most interesting markets, sprawling over several blocks. Most notable for tourists is the mercado de brujos (witch doctors’ market) in the southwest corner. This area is a one-stop shop for medicine men and has everything you might need for a potent brew: whale bones, amulets, snake skins, vials of indeterminate tonics, hallucinogenic cacti, and piles of aromatic herbs.
Beach of Pimentel
It is the main beach resort in Lambayeque and popular among vacationers and surfers. One of the main attractions is the caballitos de totora, reed boats used for fishing by Pre-Hispanic Peruvians and still in use today.
Museum Tumbas Reales of the Lord of Sipan (Moche Culture)
The Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipán is the pride of northern Peru. It was built by the Mochica culture (200 to 600 AD). This is where the tomb of the Lord of Sipan was discovered. The gold-laden tomb is considered to be the richest and one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the last 30 years in the Americas.
Pomac Forest
The Sanctuary was created on June 1, 2001, to conserve the cultural and scenic zone made up of the forest of Pómac and the archeological complex of Sicán. It covers an area of 5,887.38 hectares at an altitude of between 80 and 300 masl. The site contains 36 pyramids from the pre-Inca culture of Sicán, and it was here that the tomb of the Lord of Sican was discovered: a lavish burial with approximately 1,2 tons of beautiful artifacts made of gold and other metals. It is now possible to visit the archeological complex where the famous ceremonial knives known as Tumi were found.
Pómac forest is a habitat for many species typically found in dry woods, especially birds of many kinds, some of which are endemic. It is an important spot for bird-watchers. There are also different kinds of reptiles like iguanas and even the boa constrictor lives there. The Sanctuary also contains an ancient tree: an enormous carob with a bizarre shape, over four centuries old.
Pyramids of Tucume
Pyramids of Tucume is considered as the largest and the most unique place in South America which are located around a magical and sacred mountain with 26 buildings over an area of 220 hectares. Completely unknown to most tourists, an obscure patch of plainlands between the Andes and the Pacific in northern Peru just happens to host one of the largest and most important groupings of ancient pyramids in the world.
Huaca Bandera
The 197-foot-long (60-meter-long) sacrificial chamber or passageway at the Huaca Bandera archaeological site belonged to the Moche culture, a pre-Columbian agricultural civilization that flourished on the north coast of Peru from about 100 BC to 800 AD. The several burials found in the sacrifice chamber "are from a time apparently after the site had been abandoned but nevertheless continued to receive offerings to maintain the status of the elite sanctuary," archaeologist Carlos Wester La Torre, leader of the excavation, said in an email translated from Spanish. A skeleton was found adorned with copper ornaments on her head and ceramics and seashells alongside. Inside, the vessels are seeds of the Nectandra plant, a psychoactive often used in ritual ceremonies.
