Rohet Garh

Rohet Garh is a classified Heritage Hotel. Since 1989, it has been nurtured and developed with great love and care by the family into one of the finest heritage hotels in the country. No new building has been added in the renovation process, but rather, old edifices have been skillfully redesigned to create a heritage property that has few parallels.

A superb swimming pool with four charming pavilions entices you for a refreshing dip. Often dinner is served by the poolside as folk musicians enliven the evening atmosphere. An elegant, beautifully appointed lounge, serene verandahs, and terraces with breathtaking views, make perfect venues for relaxation.

Thirty two beautifully appointed rooms including six suites are the pride of the property. Each room is unique, boasting of it's own special features, all the while being welcoming and intimate. The frescos set the rooms apart from the ordinary, and the furniture, designed in-house in traditional hues, is of the highest quality. All rooms have attached modern bathrooms, which are spotlessly clean and tastefully adorned.

Rohet Wilderness Camp

The Rohet Wilderness Camp is located in the heart of the untamed wilderness of the Thar desert. with beautiful 360 degree vistas of the untouched countryside which comes to life everyday with the chores of the sun. It is the ultimate feeling of proximity to nature. You will be staying here on your third and fourth nights.

Mihir Garh

This superb “Fortress of the Sun” overlooks the Thar desert, right in the heart of Rajasthan. Mihir Garh stands as a tribute to this land swept by the desert winds and has been designed as an eco-friendly hotel. Each suite provides a unique place to relax, where luxurious appointments act as a foil to the mineral sand of the surrounding desert. You will be staying here on your fifth night.


Day 1

Arrival and overnight at Rohet Garh.

Day 2

Start your ride after breakfast to do the famous village safari, but on horse back. You will ride to villages and Dhanis ( hutments) to meet and interact with local folk from various communities such as Bishnois, Raikas, and more. You will get to visit their beautiful homes and experience traditional rural life in its authenticity.

The safari is a window showcasing the best of rural India. You will encounter black buck antelope and the Nilgai on the ride and get to see huge verity of bird life. A fantastic picnic lunch is included in this ride. It is a royal picnic usually by a water-body.

After having visited two to three villages and interacted with the various communities partaking in their customs and seeing their crafts, you will ride back to Rohet Garh by evening.

Day 3

Ride out after breakfast from Rohet Garh. The famous picnic lunch is served at a mid way point and the riders reach the camp in time to witness the sunset. Barbeque dinner with bonfire and over night in the luxury tents at the Rohet Wildrness Camp.

  • Distance: approximately 18 kilometers

Day 4

Ride out from the Rohet Wilderness Camp into the wilderness with picnic lunch being served en-route. This is the longest ride of the six days and you will arrive at a beautiful mobile campsite at a remote location. This camp is specially setup for guests at a beautiful picturesque location.

Day 5

Ride out after breakfast for Mihir Garh. Before lunch, ride to Dhoondli village where the riders get to visit the typical, beautiful traditional village of Western Rajasthan. You will also get to participate in the age old custom symbolizing friendship and brotherhood - The Opium Ceremony.

Lunch is served in style by the Dhoondli lake. After a leisurely lunch, you will ride on to Mihir Garh - the boutique mud Fort in the middle of nowhere. High tea awaits you upon arrival. Dinner and overnight at Mihir Garh.

  • Distance: approximately 20 kilometers

Day 6

This is the second night at Mihir Garh. You will have the option of doing an early morning and evening ride from Mihir Garh. The rest of the day they can enjoy the beautiful Mihir Garh and all that it has to offer.

Alternately, you can do a day ride with a picnic lunch out in the country side and return back to Mihir Garh for tea. Both options are open for guests, depending on how you feel on that day.


Situated on the banks of a lake and set in the midst of rural surroundings, Rohet Garh is a haven of peace and tranquility. Sprawling lawns and manicured gardens, which invite a multitude of birds and dancing peacocks, herald your entry into this oasis where the bird song is the only sound you will hear.

Bruce Chatwin and William Dalrymple practically lived at Rohet Garh for four to five months working on their respective books, The Song-lines and The City of Djinns.

Patrick French too is a friend of the family’s and has spent time at Rohet Garh, as did Simon Winchester and Jeffery Morehouse.
