The holiday with an Icelandic horse can be a wonderful break from a trip around Iceland, a quiet finish to an Iceland tour, or a standalone week vacation. This includes daily horse riding in the unspoiled land of Húsey, a two-day ride to the old farmstead of Galtastadir, self-catering hostel accommodation in the old farmhouse, and one traditional evening meal with the Húsey family.
The hostel, in the renovated old farm house, has colorful decor and retains many of the original characteristics.
The basic accommodation includes a sitting room, sun lounge, fully equipped kitchen, private and dormitory bedrooms, and shared bathrooms. The original steep staircase leads to the first floor. Twenty three beds are available (three double rooms, one triple room, two quadruple rooms, and one dorm for six persons).
Note: You do not need to bring a sleeping bag or bedding, as bed linen and towels are included.
The daily schedule is planned in accordance with your level of experience and your wishes. On the day of arrival, you may arrive early enough to be introduced to the horses and part of the area which you will further explore during your stay at Húsey.
The host will make a plan with you for the rest of the stay, which will include riding with a guide and other guests (when appropriate) each morning and afternoon, with two hours or more for each ride. This includes riding through a habitat of many plant and animal species, in particular birds, seals, and even reindeer.
Your host will review the planned week with you, including which horses you enjoy the most, whether you wish to experience riding independently, and the two-day guided ride to the old farmstead of Galtastadir which includes:
On one evening, during your stay, you will be invited to join the Húsey family for a traditional evening meal.

The land at Húsey is a paradise for nature lovers, rich in bird life and flowering moorland. You can enjoy the soft gait of their Icelandic horses without the pressure of time. The friendly, curious, and willing horses will win your heart with their pleasant and confident character.
