Il Cornacchino

Cornacchino is a wonderful place nestled in a natural kingdom, full of fascination and emotion that will reawaken your senses. They invite you to share this amazing place and their love for horses. Cornacchino is a little farm situated in a romantic valley, surrounded by woods and meadows. The horses live in small herds on 100 hectares of pasture land, in complete accord with their natural needs.

Overview

  • Main gaits: walk, trot, and canter where possible

  • Terrain: mountain paths, ancient Etruscan roads cut deep into the tuff rock, country roads, and dirt roads
  • Altitude: 860 meters (maximum) and 250 meters (minimum) above sea level
  • The stages: about five hours shared between the morning (longer ride) and the afternoon

Two hours on horseback the first three days in the valleys and woods surrounding the Cornacchino, followed by three days of travel. In the three days of trekking, unlike the taste of trekking, at the end of each travel day, you will stop at farms with your horses. In these three days of trekking, you will discover the lands of the Etruscans, their hollow streets, and necropolises excavated in the tuff, passing through Sovana, Pitigliano, and Sorano.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive, have dinner, and stay in your accommodation at Cornacchino.

Day 2

Enjoy the first two-hour ride in the woods and hills that surround Cornacchino. The rest of the day is spent at your leisure; you may want to visit the region, simply to relax in the garden.

Day 3

On the program is another two-hour ride.

Day 4

There will be another two-hour ride. Il Cornacchino assigns the horse for the trail and prepares the equipment.

Day 5 - 7

On the three-day trail, you will ride through beech woods, the Etruscan Necropolis, Etruscan roads - Vie Cave - cut deep in the tuff rock more than 2,000 years ago, Etruscan villages, hills, and beautiful countryside. You sleep in country houses along the road. In the evening of Friday, you will come back to Cornacchino where you will enjoy your final dinner together.

Day 8

You will have breakfast and then depart.

Note: The program may be modified at any time due to prevailing weather conditions or for technical reasons.

Transfer

The luggage will be carried by minibus which may also be used for some of the transfers. The belongings together should not be too bulky since there is limited space on the transport vehicle and in the saddlebags. Please avoid suitcases with a hard surface.

Dinner and breakfast are served in the farmhouse using typical local products. The picnic lunch is prepared in the morning and is taken to the destination by mini-bus or carried in the saddlebags.

  • Cassia road SS 2 at kilometer 146,5 exit for Castell'AzzaraFrom Castell'Azzara follow the road-signs "Cornacchino" (3 Km).
  • Set the satellite navigator on Castell'Azzara Via Petrarca and follow the directions.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) or Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport (CIA). Airport transfer is not included in the price. From the airport, continue by the train to Chiusi-Chianciano. Collective transfer is possible on Saturday from / to Rome Ciampino and Rome Fiumicino airports. The price per person one way is 130 EUR, round trip 250 EUR.

Arrival by train

Train station Chiusi-Chianciano (along the route Firenze-Roma) Transfers (round-trip) of groups will be organized on Saturdays at 40 EUR. Alternative transfer possible on request at 80 EUR. Taxi costs approximately 80 EUR.
