The raked ceilings add to the sense of light, freedom, and spaciousness that this modern Australian bush retreat has in abundance. This completely private 1345 acre working cattle property is a mix of wildlife habitat, with a healthy bird population of well over 100 different species found on the property, as well as it is own colony of rock wallabies.

The Accommodation

Bedroom 1 has a King bed which can be split into two singles if required. The generous room has full sized wardrobe, seating area, direct access onto the verandah and spacious ensuite.

Bedroom 2 has a Queen bed and a day bed which can be converted into a King bed. Wardrobe, ensuite and amazing views finish this room.

The Kitchen is well equipped bearing in mind that this house is totally dependent of solar power generation, so you won’t find power hungry monsters like microwaves, dishwashers and coffee machines here, but has all the essentials for a comfortable stay. The oven and cooktop are gas, there is a generous fridge, tea, coffee, and basic condiments are provided.

The combined dining and living area, which like every room in the house has amazing views is equipped with dining table for 6, VAST TV which offers plenty of channels, there is good mobile and internet reception (no WIFI).

There are two verandahs to make the most of the sun (or shade) during the day. The main one comes complete with BBQ, al-fresco dining and seating area. Sit and watch the sun go down while being entertained by the local wildlife.

Upon check-in on the first day, Ironbark House Horse Riding team will explain all there is to offer at the property and surrounding areas. The property is just over an hour's drive to Chillagoe Caves and Aboriginal Art sites which makes for an excellent day or half-day excursion. Atherton and the surrounding villages are also an hours drive away. We also offer private birding/wildlife and farm tours on property, as well as over 25 kilometers of marked hiking trails.

On the first two-hour ride, you will be introduced to the horses at the stable area, get mounted and we will work out your experience level in an enclosed arena before heading out around the property. If the guests' level of ability is not suitable for an independent trail ride, the guide can lead you, teach lessons, or modify the program to suit you.

Assuming you are all good to go, you will head out to the southern part of the property to Wallaby Rock where your very own resident colony of rock wallabies live. The ride will be mainly at the walk and trot over varying terrains from dry sclerophyll to tropical savannah forest with plenty of photo opportunities. After visiting the Wallabies, you will climb around the Western part of the property for fantastic views of the surrounding wilderness.

On the second two-hour ride, you will head out to the northern side of the property to see what bird and wildlife are. You will then continue on to check on the cattle and possibly find a friendly one to pat. Again, this ride has amazing scenery and views with a mix of terrain.

Both rides can be tailored to meet the experience of the riders.

Maximum group size: 6 people

The riding group size is a maximum of 3 per ride. If there are more guests than this the rides will be split into 2 groups.
