Accommodation

The accommodation and your attention in every aspect of the rides are all to an excellent standard. The accommodation along the way varies from the charming rural inns in villages to delightful four-star hotels in the National Park and Trujillo town.

On this ride, four nights will be at four-star hotels. All rooms have private bathrooms and are very clean and comfortable. Single rooms are possible on request with a single supplement.

There will be Wi-Fi in every place where you will stay and it will be for free. There are towels, shampoo, and liquid soap in each room, and in some places, they have hairdryers as well. The accommodation has been carefully chosen by Jerebeque Trails Horse Riding.

Due to the quality and also because of the place for horses, they will normally rest in a field next to the hotel where you will spend the nights.

Program

The landscape during the ride will be spectacular, with holm and cork oaks woods and pastures called dehesa, the most emblematic landscape in Extremadura, as well as the impressive landscape of the Monfragüe National Park, perfect for riding with your excellent horses. Emilio knows the terrain and the trails very well and will show you interesting facts along the way.

A support van will follow the group during the whole week, meeting you in the morning for tapas-breaks, lunches, at night, and also to move your luggage, so you will have access to your luggage during the day at least three times or when is necessary.

So, it will not be necessary to carry anything on the horse. You will also have some small saddle bags in front of the saddles for small things, such as bottled water, sunscreen, camera, and mobile gadgets. The service along the rides will be outstanding.

The pace

The pace of this ride will be moderate, depending on the terrain. There will be walks and trots with good canters whenever possible. The distance covered on average will be 25 to 35 kilometers per day. The landscape will also change every day.

Normally, you will not walk leading horses, except for any circumstances that are required like 20 minutes on the fourth day downhill in this ride.

Level of riding

Intermediate to experienced riders means that you should be comfortable walking, trotting, and cantering in groups in open spaces, and your seat should be independent of your hands. On the rides, you will be riding for between four to seven hours a day so it will be important to be as riding-fit as possible.

Guide

Every ride will be personally guided by the experienced Emilio. With an experience of over 30 years as an equestrian guide, he is a terrific guide. Emilio is an expert rider and has a special ability to match his horses with riders.

He will be leading the groups with his confident and well-mannered horses that are a pleasure to ride and to be around with. You will always feel very safe. He is also an English speaker.

Horses

You will be with excellent PRE horses, Hispano-Arabs and born at home, that are very much loved, very well-trained, beautifully looked after, good-natured, and very easy to ride. They are all well-fed and in great riding shape.

Tack

Jerebeque Trails Horse Riding uses the finest quality English saddles and tack with silicon seat savers and small saddle bags in front of the saddles. All the tack is in excellent condition and very comfortable for horses and riders. The horse tack quality is outstanding.

Stud breeding farm

At Jerebeque Trails Horse Riding, they use PRE horses bred from the mares that also work on the rides. These are mares chosen for their resistance, work capacity, good character, and for their favorite color, grey.

Jerebeque Trails Horse Riding also chooses stallions with the best and most contrasted origins within the race of the Andaluz horse, so they have gotten PRE horses for the rides of the best quality due to their ability to work in resistance in the hot summer temperatures and the lack of water as well as the capacity to survive in the snowy mountains of the Sierra the Gredos.

Serene horses are horses with excellent character, friendly, close to humans, and easy to ride. They will always give you the last breath in your gallops across the width and length of the Cañadas Reales in Extremadura.

Dry by the heat and muddy by the rain, they will also be able to take you to the highest peaks and the deepest valley of the Sierra de Gredos along the granitic trails.

Important information

Your hosts can adjust the itinerary accordingly to a stationary ride with two days on a mini trail. In Sierra de Gredos, Jerebeque Trails Horse Riding can adjust the itinerary to "Crystalline waters of Gredos" and in Extremadura, they will offer "Extremadura Treasures."

Please note that the space in the support van is limited. It will be for luggage that is very heavy for the guests to carry every day, though their suitcases will be available all day, making the tour very comfortable for them (you can access your luggage at tapas and lunch breaks or when needed; the support van will always be available for the group).

Jerebeque Trails Horse Riding has also limited the weight of the luggage. The maximum weight permissible for whole luggage is 23 kg. In case of exceeding the limit, there will be an extra cost of 60 EUR per person per week.

Leaving early

In the last few years, Jerebeque Trails Horse Riding has noticed that some clients decided to stop riding for personal reasons and they follow the group by the support van or they go back home.

In this case, there will be an extra cost of bringing the horse back home. It will depend on the distance. In some of the progressive trail rides, they will be very far away from home. The extra cost will be from a minimum of 100 EUR.

Location

This horse riding tour will take place in Monfragüe National Park, Spain. You will go and explore Trujillo, Jaraicejo, Torrejón el Rubio, Salto del Gitano, and Aldea del Obispo.

Trujillo

This ride starts and finishes in Trujillo, a very historic town with a mix of cultures and still-existing Roman remains from the Roman town of Turgallium, which nowadays is Trujillo.

On the top of the town, there is a spectacular castle founded in the 10th century by Arabs. In the main square, many beautiful palaces were built by Spanish Conquistadors during the 16th-century. Many storks, eagles, and swallows can be seen circling the nests on the roof of the churches and palaces in the Plaza Mayor, a very good atmosphere.

Trujillo is very famous for its monuments and because it was the birthplace of Francisco Pizarro and his brothers, conquerors of Peru, as well as of Francisco de Orellana, who accomplished the first descent of the River Amazon. Pizarro’s equestrian statue stands in the Plaza Mayor.

Monfragüe National Park

The Monfragüe National Park is a wonderful place to visit for Mediterranean flora and ornithology. Located close to Trujillo, with the Tajo river running through it, the Monfragüe National Park is unique. It was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2003.

Monfragüe takes its name from the Romans, who called it Mons Fragorum, the fragmented mountain. It is a typically Iberian landscape that provides a home for the Park’s incredibly diverse flora and fauna. Cork oaks, wild olives, and holm oak trees surround the national park.

The most popular birdwatching spot for visitors is the Salto del Gitano. This is a 300-meter cliff above the Tajo River. Jerebeque Trails Horse Riding will not forget to program a break in your Monfragüe National Park ride to admire the black storks, vultures, Egyptian vultures, and imperial eagles that are just a few of the many birds that nest in the Salto del Gitano.

The park is also the site of Monfragüe Castle, an Arab construction. People have left many other marks on Monfragüe over the ages, such as many prehistoric cave paintings.

Food

You will be served all meals from welcome dinner on the first day to breakfast on the last day, as well as white and red wine with lunch and dinner included in the price.

The food is another highlight of this trip. Mamen will delight you with the tapas-breaks waiting for you in any unexpected place, with Serrano ham, Manchego cheese, olives, nuts, etc.

Lunchtime will be a relaxing and social affair with delicious home-cooked Spanish dishes such as paella, tortilla Española, Iberian pork barbecue, salads, and excellent quality soft cheese very typical of Extremadura Torta del Casar. This will be followed by a siesta in the peace of the countryside.

After the day riding, your dinner in the evening will be at around 21:00 and you will have a choice from the different dishes and courses of local Spanish recipes. Your dinner will be at your guesthouse accommodation. All the drinks are also included during the meals: excellent Spanish red and white wines, beer, canned drinks, and water.
