You usually stay in extra ger which is prepared by nomads, sometimes at (selected days) tourist ger camp.

Program

Day 1

Drive to the city of Kharhorin, the ancient capital of Mongolia founded in the 13th century. There you will visit Erdene Zuu Monastery, the earliest surviving Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. Overnight at ger guesthouse.

Day 2

After breakfast, you will drive to the waterfall that is situated in the historically significant Orkhon Valley, whose river flows an incredible 1120 kilometer journey to the north before it joins the mighty Selenge River. It cascades from an impressive height of 20 meters and its width is 10 meters. The waterfall was formed by a unique combination of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes about 20,000 years ago. The fall is naturally impressive after heavy rain. Overnight near the waterfall local family extra ger.

Day 3

Start horse trip after breakfast. Horse trekking to Boorog place at 10:00 a.m., have lunch on the way, tour assistant will cook for you, camping near forest / in a tent. Today, you will ride 15 km. Have dinner at night, the guide will cook for you.

Day 4

Horse trekking to Khuis Lake and Shireet Lake. Have lunch and dinner on the way /cooking / camping near the lake next to the nomad family, see other small lakes on the way. Today, you will ride 15 km roughly.

Day 5

Horse trekking to Khurmen chuluu - volcanic stone and overnight near the mountainside.

Day 6

Horseback riding to Boorog place and overnight at the camp there.

Day 7

After breakfast, horse ride back to Orkhon Valley, stay in ger. Take a rest after long horse riding.

Day 8

After breakfast at 08:30 a.m, you will drive to Mongol sand dunes. When you arrive at small sand dune / Elsen tasarkha, there will be free time for camel riding. Overnight in ger next to the local family.

Day 9

After breakfast, drive to Ulaanbaatar and have lunch on the way back.

Attention for horse / camel riding

  • It is not allowed to be near the horse without the guide’s direction or permission, especially near the horse’s rear.
  • Do not put on or take off your clothes while riding the horse.
  • Do not hang down long strapped bag because some clothes make noises that can make the horse spook and take off.
  • If you want to stop to take a picture or change your clothes (e.g. in case of rain) you should tell the guide and you can get off and get on the horse with the guide’s help.
  • It is forbidden to gallop very fast.
  • Do not put your feet through the stirrup completely.
  • To ride the horse, you must get on the horse from the left side.
  • While riding the horse, do not twist the reins around your hands.
  • While riding the horse, do not put your leg on the horse’s head and do not hang down your legs without your feet through the stirrup.

Khongor Expedition only use animals in excellent health which have been trained to do long and arduous treks. For the camel and horse trekking tours, you will be taken care of by local guides who provide horses, or camels as pack animals and even the guides will assist with riding lessons if you are new to horse or camel trekking.

Arrival by airplane

The majority of visitors come to Mongolia by air through ChinggisKhaan International Airpor (ULN) to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. There are several airlines that fly to Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar) directly from Korea, China, Russia, Germany (via Moscow), and Japan. Khongor Expedition are able to book a cheap and convenient air ticket for you from Ulaanbaatar to directly Korea / Seoul / China (Beijing), Russia (Moscow), and Japan (Tokyo) as well as domestic flight tickets in Mongolia.

Arrival by train

The famous railway route runs between Moscow-Ulaanbaatar-Beijing. Khongor Expedition are able to book train tickets to either destinations from Ulaanbaatar. The journey from UB to Moscow by train takes 5 days and from UB to Beijing takes about 32 hours. Each train has a choice between the second class to 4 berth compartments / kupi / and first class 2 berth compartments / SP / as well as a restaurant. The tickets can only be purchased one month in advance. Early booking is recommended. Passport copy is required.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 20% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
