Lifetime Experience invites you to join an adventurous horse riding holiday that will include some of the most breathtaking desert scapes on the planet. From the great dune sea of the central Namib to the very edge of the Sperrgebiet (German for a restricted area), this ride will cover diverse desert terrains like immense grassy plains, signature inselbergs (island mountains), and the rugged Tiras Mountain Reserve. This exclusive ride will end at Klein Aus Vista near the home of the Wild Horses of the Namib. Come and enjoy horse riding safari in a desert paradise of Namibia!
You will stay in a lodge-based accommodation on the first night and the other nine nights will be spent by camping in the wild.
Your journey will start from Windhoek and back to Windhoek, taking 11 days and 10 nights with seven days' riding. You will arrive in Windhoek on the first day of your horse riding safari in time for pre-dinner group meeting and arrive back at Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) on the last day of the trail. In this holiday, your days will begin at sunrise with the delightful aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafting through camp followed by breakfast. Your daily departure will generally start at 08:00 with four to five hours riding before lunch.
Lunch breaks will vary from an hour to two hours followed by another two to three hours of riding in the afternoon. Lifetime Experience will average anything from 20 to 50 kilometers of riding per day at all paces - sometimes over rough terrain. Please note that this is a true desert so routes can change due to unpredictable weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Please consult Lifetime Experience for more details on camp life, meals, tack, and other information as well as add-on trips before or after your ride.
You will be met at the Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) and transferred to your overnight accommodation. You will meet the rest of your riding group for dinner where your guide, Andrew Gillies, will brief you about what to expect on your riding adventure. After breakfast, you will have a four-hour commute to the lunch spot in the quaint town of Maltahöhe followed by a decent down the Zaris Pass to Wolwedans in a private reserve. After that, you will settle in and explore your surroundings, then meet your crew and horses before enjoying sundowners in the soft evening light with the spectacular Milky Way arching overhead. This and all subsequent nights will be spent by camping.
You will set off into the wide expanse of one of the largest nature reserves in Southern Africa. You will be riding across vast plains of truly unspoiled countryside with exceptional panoramic views where sentinel inselbergs (island mountains) dot the desert scape. The desert-adapted game will be encountered during the day where an open country with good going will allow some fast-paced riding. Lunch will be enjoyed under a convenient tree or interesting spot with a good view.
Overnight camps will be chosen for their spectacular desert scape views and you will arrive in time to enjoy sundowners in the soft pastel light the Namib is known for. You will be sleeping under the magnificent starry sky which has its own kind of magic as there are only a few places on earth that could afford so little light pollution and an incomparable view of the southern constellation. The route may vary depending on weather conditions or other circumstances but you can be assured that every day will be memorable.
From your last night camp in Geistershlucht (the ghost valley), you will visit the waterhole of the Namib’s wild horses for a sundowner. On your last day, you will visit the coastal town of Luderitz, visiting the extraordinary "ghost town" of Kolmanskop - a town in the desert that is "reclaiming" - followed by your departure from Klein Aus to Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) later.
You will visit the coastal town of Luderitz on the last day.
You will be riding along various nature reserves and panoramic desert scapes in Namibia.
You will be served breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and drinks only when you are out camping. Personal drinks at lodges and restaurants are not included.
