Horseback riding to Xunantunich Mayan Temples

This tour lasts approximately 4 hours, depending on the desire to explore. It is a 1-hour ride to the ruins, 1-hour of exploration at the ruins, 1-hour lunch, and another 1-hour ride back to the stables.

Food

The onsite San Ignacio restaurant and bar is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and has a unique and delicious menu of Mayan and Caribbean inspired cuisine. All meals are made from organic, farm fresh, quality ingredients and prepared the way you like it by the resident chef.

Breakfast is served at 7:00 a.m. and offers a range of American and Belizean style dishes including a selection of fresh local fruits, eggs, and omelets prepared your way, and freshly squeezed juices.

Lunch is served at 12:00 p.m. and offers daily specials of local and Caribbean inspired meals made with farm fresh and organic vegetables and meats.

Dinner is served at 5:00 p.m. and is a 3-course meal skillfully prepared by the chef with an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Vegetarian options are available.

The bar offers an array of local and imported wines, beers, and spirits and is open for as long as you like. Refreshing and healthy fruit juices and fusions are also available and made fresh daily.

The second-floor communal balcony is the perfect location for bird watching. In the early morning, many species of birds can be seen and heard frolicking among the fruit trees on the river bank. Mahogany Hall Luxury Boutique Resort provides binoculars to those who want to bird watch from the balcony.

Infinity swimming pool

The freshwater infinity pool is available for use at your leisure. Cool off after a day of excitement and adventure or just lounge and enjoy drinks from the bar only a few feet away.

Lounging

Hammocks and lounge chairs are available riverside creating a tranquil area to relax and unwind. The rhythm of the river, cool breezes, and swaying tropical trees set up the perfect ambiance to melt stress away.

Massages and spa treatments

Massages, facials, and scrubs can be arranged for guests either in their suite or riverside.

Private candle-light dinner

Couples, whether on their honeymoon or just a romantic vacation, can request to have an intimate dinner whereby the staff will set up a private and romantic dining experience for two. Your table, weather permitting, will be riverside where you will be serenaded by the flow of the river as you sit in the adoring glow created by Tiki torches.

Private jacuzzi

River swimming

The jade-colored Mopan River, thirty feet from the deck, runs parallel to Mahogany Hall and serves as an adventurous location for boogie boarding and swimming. Big inner tubes are also available at the resort for guests to use at their leisure.

Enjoy a refreshing ride as you tube down “God's waterslide” then just lie back in your tube and let the currents take you down river where you can bar-hop along the way. When water levels are low, a volleyball net can be set up for an exciting game of river volleyball.

How to get there

Driving directions from Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE)

  • Head east toward the Northern Highway approximately 1.7 miles.
  • At the junction with the Northern Highway, you will make a left turn
  • Continue for 5 miles.
  • Make a left turn onto Burrell Boom Road.
  • The drive from the Northern Highway to the Western Highway is 12 miles long.
  • You will come to a roundabout, where you will exit onto the Western Highway.
  • The drive on the Western Highway is 1 hour and 45 minutes from Belize City.
  • You will eventually reach Santa Elena (the other half of San Ignacio).
  • There will be a big orange sign that says ‘San Ignacio and Beyond This Way’.
  • Take a right there.
  • When you come to the end of that road, you will take a left.
  • Then hang right straight down a hill (all of the traffic flow will go this way).
  • Cross the bridge (your only option).
  • Go right and stay on the paved road past the cemetery.
  • You will be on a double street, a high school should be to your right (there is a pedestrian walk at the entrance of the high school).
  • Continue straight up this hill.
  • Follow the road as it takes you to another pedestrian walk.
  • At this point, you will be at a crossroad.
  • Make a right, this is Bullet Tree Road.
  • You will pass Juan Chuc's Hardware on your right and continue straight.
  • After about 2 miles you have entered the village of Bullet Tree Falls.
  • Pass the soccer field on your right.
  • When you reach a small open cement bus stop, keep on the paved road.
  • Where you will meet a bridge, do not go over the bridge but take the left road before the bridge.
  • The road where you turn is unpaved and parallel to the river.
  • You keep going less than one mile down this road.
  • You will see a beautiful yellow building on your right.
