Put your boots on, things just got cowboy in Chester, New Hampshire! Designed for experienced horseback riders only, who want to get off the grid for a few nights, live with the land, not on it, and ride some challenging trails in Southern New Hampshire. Maximum party groups of 4, stay in the ranch cabin and teepees, eat great food cooked over an open fire pit, and experience the outdoor shower everyone loves.
Ride trails from 5 to 20 miles, cross water, walk, trot, and gallop through forests, across green meadows. All-inclusive, meals, accommodation, arrive Monday afternoon and meet the cowboys and cowgirls, ranch hands, etc., meet the horses, get fed. During the evening, they have ax throwing, roping dummy steers, corn hole, fire pit, etc.
Next day, wake up to breakfast, horsemanship to get your horse ready and tacked up, warm up and get to know the horse in the arena, then hit the trails. Back to the ranch for lunch then back out on the trails. Late afternoon get back to the ranch and relax, shower, play games, and eat dinner.
Wednesday after breakfast, grab water, and a snack for the ride and head out on the trails. The itinerary is subject to change based on weather conditions, rider ability, and other unforeseen issues when dealing with livestock. All check-in times are 4 p.m. but advertised as arrivals from 12 noon are accepted. All check-outs are 4 p.m. but later check-out or additional nights are allowed with a request.
All of the horses are best suited to experienced riders, they're all strong-willed and need a confident rider with a solid seat. Guests must dress for horse riding. You'll ride western; with boots with heels, appropriate pants, and long sleeve shirts, cowboy hats, or helmets; and rainwear as you ride in the rain or shine.
New Hampshire weather is crazy and it changes in a heartbeat! So please send an inquiry if you have concerns about the weather and you can try to reschedule for a different day if needed.
Ranch rules
- In the event of inclement weather or hazardous road conditions, they withhold to cancel or reschedule any rides, or horsemanship sessions scheduled. Events hosted at the Martin Ranch will be planned with seasonal weather in mind, but extreme conditions may lead to cancellation.
- Although safety is a priority, guests need to understand there is an inherent risk in participating in any activity, event, or attraction. They expect guest(s) to exercise good judgment and act in a responsible manner. Guests must also obey all oral and written warnings. Guests who do not comply may be required to leave the ranch without a refund.
- Food, beverages, or coolers may be brought into the ranch. The ranch does have picnic areas available for guests.
- Please do not bring your animals to the ranch without prior warning.
- Please close the gates behind you as you go, the horses will take any chance for a run around the property!
- Guests at the ranch will be required to sign a liability waiver and requested to sign a photo/video release.
- No children under 10 years old without prior approval. Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by a legal guardian over 18 years of age.
