You will be accommodated at Martz Farm Treehouses and Cabañas, in a treehouse. The treehouse remains their most popular accommodation and has been nicknamed the honeymoon suite by past guests. Regardless if you are an avid adventurer looking for a unique jungle experience or if you and your children have always wanted to stay in a treehouse, this jungle hideaway will charm you.

The Belize treehouse offers great value, and the relaxed and friendly atmosphere offers the perfect place to reflect on your day's adventures. At Martz Farm, their commitment to sustainable tourism is more than just words. It permeates all their day-to-day tasks and is evident all around. For example, they use high-quality, but not single-packaged personal hygiene room condiments.

Their water comes from two different sources: rain catchment and the stream located on the property, which is filtered for drinking so that you can refill your water bottles instead of purchasing numerous one-liter bottles. Electricity is provided by an on-site solar system. It is their pleasure to let you know about their unique and complex eco-system and to provide plenty of hands-on learning experiences during your stay.

Program

During your stay, you will have three full-day rides and a full-day trip to Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave. The rides start early, after breakfast. You will ride and stop mid-day for lunch and be back at the farm for dinner.

Being horsemen, Martz Farm Treehouses and Cabañas pride themselves on their herd and equipment and ensure you will enjoy your horseback ride as much as they do.

Location

Despite its small population, Belize boasts immense cultural diversity. Maya, Mestizo, Creole, Garifuna, Menonite, East Indian, and Chinese people live and work together as one people while remaining true to many of their traditional ways of life. For the enlightened traveler, this presents a fabulous opportunity to explore the many different aspects of cultural tourism in Belize.

A destination where culture and nature meet, Belize is also home of the largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere and provides spectacular diving and snorkeling opportunities along its coast and on the many offshore cayes. Western Belize is the ultimate adventure destination.

The geographical formations in Western Belize, mostly karstic limestone, house hundreds of caves, of which many were used by the ancient Maya to perform rituals. Thousand-year-old stalactites and stalagmites stand side by side with ancient Mayan pottery at the entrance to the Mayan underworld "Xibalba."

Caving adventures, canopy zip-lines, secluded jungle waterfalls, Mayan temples, exotic butterfly farms, the Green Iguana Conservation project, jungle horseback riding are all available.

Driving directions

  • Follow the George Price Highway (formerly known as the Western Highway) through to Benque Viejo del Carmen.
  • Upon entering the town, follow the main boulevard around the sharp left turn indicated towards the border with Guatemala.
  • On the boulevard, you will pass three speed bumps.
  • Turn left at Daisy's Superstore. This is your final opportunity to stock up with snacks, batteries, toiletries, and beverages.
  • Continue straight ahead; the pavement ends after a few hundred yards and it is a gravel road from here on.
  • Follow this (Mollejon Road) road without taking any turns for 8.5 miles.
  • At mile 7 you will drive by a sign for El Mirador Restaurant and at mile 8 you will encounter the signpost for the entrance to Che Chem Ha Cave.
  • From here on, Martz Farm Treehouses and Cabañas' entrance is half a mile further down the road, on the same left-hand side. The entrance is marked by a small sign with a donkey on it. Follow the driveway through crossing the creek until you see a large building ahead which is their lobby / dining area.

There are a number of reputable Belizean and international rental agencies conveniently located at the airport. Even though Martz Farm Treehouses and Cabañas recommend a four-wheel drive vehicle, you can navigate to them and around the country without it. Largely, it will depend on your comfort in driving on unpaved roads, which they have quite a few of in Belize.

In Martz Farm's experience, no matter where you rent your vehicles from, they are a bit prone to giving at least some trouble, and the crucial point is how helpful the agency is in replacing that vehicle for you without losing a precious vacation day.

They have a very good working relationship with Crystal Auto Rental, but some of the international agencies at the airport are just as good. In all cases you should check for a few things when you get your vehicle: Tires have sufficient tread on them? Jack and spare tire in the vehicle? Does the spare tire fit the rim of your vehicle?

Please have the driving directions available offline. As soon as you leave the town of Benque Viejo, you will be out of cellphone / internet service. Google Maps and GPS will not usually get you to the right place. Martz Farm suggest you arrive before 6:00 p.m., which allows you to find your way to them and go through your check-in before night fall, at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Hector Silva Airstrip (BCV). Transfers from and to this airport are not provided.
