You are welcomed into the delightful home to enjoy the social atmosphere, family environment and have a great time. In between polo and other activities, there is plenty of space to enjoy a few drinks, talk polo and have a good laugh. The Amberwood homestead offers first class accommodation, swimming pool, heated spa, and wonderful mature gardens. Private guest accommodation come with en-suite facilities.

Program

A typical day will consist of breakfast followed by coaching, wooden horse and stick and ball. Lunch then afternoon chukkas either at Amberwood or at a local polo club, evening social and group dinner.

Lessons are tailored to suit your requirements and can be interspersed with a beach ride or farm trek as required. Tournament polo can also be arranged with necessary advanced notice.

Things to do (optional)

Although there can never be enough polo, you can also have fun and try your hand at other activities. A short drive away is the world-famous surf town of Raglan. You can have fun jet-skiing around the harbor. If sailing wets your appetite, have a few hours fun in the harbor exploring sheltered beaches or popping into the pub for a well-earned beer. Several golf clubs are also available in the area for all your golfing needs, or Adventure Waikato just down the road providing caving adventures, abseiling or a trip down the flying fox.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Auckland International Airport (AKL). Transfer from and to the airport is included. New Zealand Polo Holidays will pick you up from the airport.

Besides Auckland, you can also fly into Hamilton Airport (HLZ).

Driving directions from Hamilton Airport

  • On leaving Hamilton head North West on SH 3 to Hamilton, merge onto SH 1 and continue North into Hamiltion join the Te Rapa Road heading North to Ngaruawahia.
  • In Ngaruawahia, take a left turn to the Waingaro Hot Springs, over the railway lines to the roundabout, take the third exit and cross the bridge over the Waipa River.
  • Travel along the Waingaro Road to the Hot Springs (approximately 25 minutes).
  • Continue past the Waingaro Hot Springs on SH 22 for approximately 14 kilometers until you see the first Adventure Waikato sign taking you left down the Waimai Valley road.
  • Continue to follow the Adventure Waikato signs (approximately 30 minutes from the Hot Springs).
  • From the junction of Dixon Road and Matira Road, travel four kilometers and you will pass 692 Matira Road, The Homestead, Adventure Waikato is one kilometer from the corner.
  • Pass Adventure Waikato signpost on your left and continue on Matira Road, approximately one kilometer further on the road will take a right-angled turn at 550 Matira Rd which is at the entrance to Westward Downs farm (Alex Parrott’s farm), continue on Matira road for approx another one kilometer to one and a half kilometer, the road is a series of “S” bends at this point.
  • On reaching a straight stretch of road on a downhill section 369 Matira Road will be found at the bottom of the dip on the right-hand side, there is a large white post box at the entrance.

Driving directions from Auckland Airport

  • On leaving Auckland Airport, follow signs to Hamilton and Manukau, at Manukau City join State Highway 1 (SH1) South.
  • You are recommended to travel South on SH 1 to Mercer (approx 35 minutes).
  • Take the Pukekawa, turn off and travel over the Waikato river onto Mercer Ferry Road, continue onto Mile Bush Road to SH 22 (approx 11 kilometers).
  • Turn left on SH 22.
  • Continue on this road through Pukekawa and onto Glen Murray (approx 18 kilometers).
  • Note: Glen Murray consists of 1 Mobile station and 1 hall.
  • Travel a further five kilometers where you will then turn right onto Waikaretu Road at the large Telecom tower.
  • Travel 13 kilometers and take Richardson Road on the left.
  • Travel to the end of Richardson Road and turn right onto Matira Road.
  • Travel four kilometers and you will pass 692 Matira Road, The Homestead, Adventure Waikato is one kilometer from the corner.
