  • 7 nights camping
  • 2 nights in a yurt camp
  • 1 night in a yurt with a nomadic family
  • 2 nights in a two-star hotel in Ulaanbaatar

Day 1: Ulan Bator

Welcome to Mongolia! Your English speaking translator will be waiting for you at Ulan Bator Chinggis Khaan International Airport (ULN). No lunch is included on this day. You will visit Gandantegchinlin Monastery and the National Museum of Mongolian History. Dinner will be downtown and you will spend the night at a two-star hotel or a similar accommodation in a twin or triple room.

Day 2: Ulan Bator - Bayan Gobi Desert

Have your breakfast and depart with the 4×4 vehicle to the Bayan Gobi Desert, the “rich Gobi.” Have lunch on the way and then meet the nomadic herder who will be your equestrian guide for the next three days of horse riding in the wilderness of Bayan Gobi, between dunes and steppes.

You will set up your first camp in the wilderness, in a sparsely populated area on the southern edge of the Bayan Gobi Desert. Riders will set up their own tent (single tents will be provided at no additional charge upon request before departure). A shower tent and a large tent for the preparation of meals will make the camp comfortable. Have your dinner and spend your first night in tents.

Days 3, 4, and 5: Horseback Riding in the Bayan Gobi Desert.

You will leave for three days of horse riding adventure in the Bayan Gobi Desert. This equestrian tour in the Bayan Gobi Desert is the only opportunity of riding a horse in a typical landscape of the Gobi Desert, as there are no horses deep in the southern Gobi, only camels.

This area is truly the heart of Mongolia, it is indeed Mongolia’s geographical center. It is also located at the junction of three major Mongolian ecosystems: two of the main mountain ranges in the country, the Khangai and Khentii, and a northern edge of the Gobi Desert.

Mount Batkhan overlooks this area and gives rise to several rivers and springs which mix their waters with the sand dunes of Elsentasarkhai, the “sand break”, forming a changing and spectacular scenery. Every night, after riding between dunes, rivers, and steppes, everyone will set up the camp.

On day 4, you will have the opportunity to ride camels at the end of the riding day! On the afternoon of day 5, you will reach the Khogno Khan cliffs where you will visit Ovgon Khiid monastery, set in dramatic scenery. Dinners and nights will be in a yurt camp nestled at the foot of the cliffs (two to four riders per yurt with individual bed and showers and toilets in a separate building).

Day 6: Bayan Gobi Desert - Horse Riding in the Orkhon Valley

After breakfast, a four to five-hour drive will take you to the Orkhon Valley, a famous World Heritage Site in Central Mongolia. You will meet the nomadic herders and horses who will be your companions during the next 8 days of horse riding. The change in environment is striking, after the desert and sandy expanses of Bayan Gobi, you are now in a mountainous area, a maze of green valleys with forested slopes.

After lunch, start your first horseback ride in the larch forests covering the first slopes of the Naiman Nuur Park in the upstream part of the Orkhon Valley. After the ride, set up camp in the wilderness for dinner, where you will spend the night.

Days 7 to 11: Horse Riding Tour in the Orkhon Valley

These five days on horseback are dedicated to exploring the famous Orkhon Valley, starting from the upstream part close to Naiman Nuur Park down to the Karakorum, the former capital of the Mongol Empire. During this ride, you will see the Orkhon Falls and visit Tovkhon Monastery high in the Khangai Mountains, bordering the northern part of the Valley. You will end this ride in the Karakorum, where you will visit Erdene Zuu Monastery on the last day of your ride.

During these days, the accommodation for three nights will be a set-up camp and tents in the wilderness. One night will be spent in a guest yurt close to a nomadic family (up to 5 persons per yurt) and the last night will be spent in a touristic yurt camp in Karakorum (two to four persons per yurt with showers in a separate building).

Day 12: Karakorum - Ulan Bator

Have your breakfast and depart early to Ulan Bator, where you will arrive in the afternoon; have lunch en route. The rest of the afternoon is dedicated to shopping in stores downtown or at the Narantuul “black market” where you will find traditional clothing and objects of daily life.

In the late afternoon, you will attend a show with traditional dances, music, and songs from Mongolia, especially the amazing Khoomei. No dinner is included to let you choose among the various dining opportunities offered by Ulan Bator. The last night will be at a two-star hotel or similar in twin or triple rooms.

Day 13: Ulan Bator

Have breakfast and transfer to your airport of departure on time.

This riding holiday will take place at Orkhon Valley. You will also visit the Karakorum, Khugnu Khan, monasteries, museum, nomad families, and other beautiful places.
