This ride takes place in the magnificent mountains of Heidal, in the heart of Norway. When you arrive at Øien Øvre's mountain farm, you will experience three days of exciting trail rides in the best of what Norway has to offer when it comes to nature. You will have your own horse for the whole stay, and the days will be filled with riding. You will stay in small rustic cabins, in Øien Øvre's lavvos, and, for one night, at a mountain hotel.
Rider Weight Limit: 264 pounds / 120 kilograms
Horse Height Range: 13 to 16 hands
Tack Type: English and Western tack
Horse Breed: Dølehorses, Fjordhorses, Icelanders, Haflingers, and some crossbreeds
Øien Øvre's accommodations are four small, rustic cabins in an old summer farm. The heating is gas or wood, and in the evenings you may light the candles and oil lamps. You can find drinking water in a hose outside, in the stable. Most of the meals are cooked over open fire. They also have gas stoves inside, in case of rain. You will share the cabins with two to four other persons.
On your second night, you sleep in lavvos (tents) in the mountains. Here, you cook your dinner over the cooking fire. On the third night, you will sleep at Hindseter Fjellhotell, in double rooms with shower, or in a cabin with several beds and a shower in the bathroom.
18:00 Arrival - check in at the cabins
19:00 You meet to talk about the days to come
11:00 You go out to get the horses, and your ride begins! During the first day, you will ride trough mountain landscape, on narrow paths, and have your lunch outside. You will need to build the camp, sleep in lavvos, and cook your dinner over open fire.
After breakfast, you will continue further into the Norwegian mountains, still on narrow paths, over mountain ridges, and into valleys. Again, you have your lunch outdoors. In the evening, you arrive at the mountain hotel Hindseter, where you can take a shower before you are served a gourmet dinner. Tonight, you sleep over at the hotel.
09:30 Breakfast at the hotel
When you have finished breakfast, you get your horse ready for the last day of riding. Today, you will pass Ridderspranget, a gorge in the Sjoa River, where a story talks about a knight who kidnapped a girl from her father in Vågå and jumped across the river to escape. Most of the day, you will ride on dirt roads on the far bank of the Sjoa River before going back into the mountains at Stålane and back to Øien Øvre's summer farm during the evening.
