Olepangi Farm

Set at the foothills of Mount Kenya, Olepangi Farm is an authentic farmstead in Timau. Set on 120 acres, this family-run lodge offers amazing views over the natural surroundings and is hosted by the owners, Elizabeth and Clinton who have developed the farm as a lifelong dream to live in such a paradise.

The beautifully appointed cottages are decorated with rich antique carpets and beds. Each one has a private bathroom and is fitted with a shower and comes with beautiful organic soap, shampoo, and conditioner handmade in Kenya. At the farm, guests can enjoy massages, horse riding, community walks, croquet, gin tastings, and the favorite option "do nothing."

Further afield, the beautiful Laikipia region is ideal for hiking, horse riding and game viewing. Guests can take day trips into the many neighboring wildlife reserves including Samburu National Park, Ol Pejeta, Lolldaigas, Solio, and into Ngare Ndare Forest.

Program

Day 1

Arrive by road to Olepangi Farm, driving through the beautiful Kikuyu Highlands and arriving in time for a hearty lunch. After lunch beneath the shade of an impressive fig tree, you will go out on an orientation ride to match all riders with their horses for the safari. In the evening, you will set up a telescope to view the magical African sky with hot chocolates around the fire pit.

Day 2

Early risers can watch the sunrise over the mountain. You will ride out from the farm after breakfast to Lolldaiga Hills Ranch, often referred to as the most beautiful ranch in all of Kenya. It is a great privilege that you'll have use of this private ranch for it is a wonder to behold.

Take your time enjoying the scenery and wildlife along the way. You’ll have a good chance of seeing elephant, giraffe, buffalo and, with luck, many other species. Arrive at Lolldaiga Farmhouse in time for a late lunch followed by an evening game drive to the farm's phenomenal sundowner spot.

Day 3

Wake up to a cup of tea or coffee in bed, followed by a light breakfast of toast and muesli. You will then head off into a different direction enjoying the quiet and tranquility of this 49,000 acre private game reserve. Depending on the season, this may involve some cantering through the open plains or pushing-on through seas of tall grass following giraffe, zebra, antelope, elephant, buffalo; whatever's out there.

You will take a break for a bush lunch in a shady spot, giving both riders and horses plenty of time to relax. There’s always some wine on offer to encourage a little nap before the afternoon ride back to base. The afternoon ride is deliberately slower-paced and it's a good opportunity to ask questions and take photographs.

The bird-life is some of the best in the world and towards sunset there is often elephant interaction to enjoy. You will return to the farmhouse and go out on an evening drive to see what is around before dark.

Day 4

This morning, you will get onto the horses at first light to make the most of the cool air and greater game activity. Stop for a break after about two hours riding for a bit of a re-fuel before making the way back to the farmhouse in time for baths and a chance to relax before lunch.

This afternoon, you will explore on foot, going down to the eastern part of the ranch where caves with ancient rock art can be found. Sundowners will be ready after the walk returning to the farmhouse for dinner and stories around the fire.

Day 5

For the last ride, you will make your way through clouds of grass to plains dotted with cedar trees. While passing through woodlands, there's a possibility of finding big game again. The pace may increase as you break out onto the plains; perhaps disturbing troops of baboons or cantering alongside giraffes or cape buffalo.

Back at Olepangi Farm, there's time to shower before lunch. Spend the afternoon relaxing with a book or take a game of croquet!

Day 6

Today you can enjoy a lie in and a relaxed final breakfast before your onward journey. Depending on your flight time, you are welcome to join an extra lunch and enjoy the farm until you leave.
