Program

  • Level of difficulty: Intermediate - In order to participate in the trek, the riders need to be comfortable in all three gaits and have experience of riding outside. It is best that they have already done a full day on horseback.

Day 1: Arrival

You will be welcomed at the airport and transferred to Zagora. Overnight will be at a hotel.

Days 2 - 6: Horse riding

Every day you will be in the saddle for about five to six hours. You will start by exploring the large spaces of the Moroccan desert. During the ride in the desert, you will cross the last mountain range that separates you from the Sahara. Following a path with hairpin bends, you continue to the top, where you will enjoy a magnificent panorama.

The descent leads to oases on desert plateaus, where only a few acacia trees, looking like umbrellas, survive the dry climate. Gradually, as you advance towards the south, you approach the first dunes the size of which increases progressively until they fill the landscape that lies before you. Continuing towards the Draa Valley, you cross vast dune fields dotted with tamarisk.

You will find houses, palm groves, and kasrs (fortified villages). As you enter the Draa Valley, crossing the dunes, there are plateaus (reg) and gorges. Later, you encounter small villages where you pass by ksar and gardens to the heart of the palm groves and oases. Every evening you can enjoy a bonfire, a traditional Moroccan meal, and a night in a bivouac under a Berber tent. Dinner and overnight will be at Berber camps.

Day 7: Ride back to Zagora

On this day, you will return to Zagora, for only a half-day of riding. In the afternoon, it is possible to visit the Medina of Zagora, then transfer to Ouarzazate. Dinner and overnight will be at a hotel in Ouarzazate.

Day 8: Departure

You will be transferred to the airport.

Note: If weather conditions require it or due to unexpected factors, Ranch de Diabat reserves the right to modify certain route sections or stages in the interest of the participants.
