Excellent Horse Riding Holiday Spain

This equestrian journey through the region of Tierra de Barros will be an excellent combination of cultural and nature tourism as well as wine tourism, inviting you to discover this region and to enjoy it. The most representative towns of the region will be visited along the route as well as some of the wineries from the Designation of Origin Ribera del Guadiana. To plot good riding routes for horse riding, Riding & Sun has looked for unforgettable places where to spend your holidays on horseback. A special care of the horses in a natural environment is what you will find on each route designed to enjoy. This horse riding will be a wonderful holiday that your future self will thank you for!

You will be accommodated in various accommodations provided by Ride & Sun in a double / twin room (two persons per room) with a private bathroom in Almendralejo, Alange, Puebla de la Reina, Villafranca de los Barros, and Aceuchal.



Day 1: Arrival (welcome) - Almendralejo

Today, you will have an equestrian center visit to check facilities, horses, and evaluation of riders’ level. Then, you will enjoy an excursion from the equestrian center through the beautiful surroundings. You will visit and have tastings in the wine cellars of Almendralejo. Barbecue dinner will be held in the equestrian center. Accommodation will be in nice and cozy hotel in the center of Almendralejo.

Day 2: Almendralejo - Alange

In the morning, following a tasty breakfast, you will meet the horses and begin your first day of riding from the equestrian center. You will ride to Alange at the foot of the reservoir of the same name where you can take a bath. Short breaks during the trip will allow you to enjoy the landscapes of vineyards, olive trees, and meadows - typical landscape of this region of Tierra de Barros. Dinner and overnight will be at a nice hotel overlooking the reservoir. You may have the possibility to enjoy visiting the spa of Alange, World Heritage since 1993.

Day 3: Alange - Puebla de la Reina

From this beautiful town, you will head towards Puebla de la Reina, crossing the reservoir of Alange. You will pass through Palomas with its majestic church. Accommodation will be in a cozy country house in Puebla de la Reina.

Day 4: Puebla de la Reina - Vía de la Plata - Villafranca de los Barros

This morning, you will head towards Villafranca de los Barros, the second largest town of this region. At this point, there is the Vía de la Plata, an important historical and cultural route crossing Extremadura from south to north. Dinner and accommodation will be in Villafranca de los Barros.

Day 5: Villafranca de los Barros - Aceuchal

Today, you will ride along beautiful paths from Villafranca de los Barros to Aceuchal across a large flat plain forms interrupted by the gentle undulations of the streams that pour to the river Guadajira. On this river, there was built the reservoir of Villalba de los Barros. Dinner and overnight will be in Aceuchal.

Day 6: Aceuchal - Almendralejo (departure)

After an early start from Aceuchal, you are going to ride eastbound. Almendralejo will be the end of this route Tierra de Barros. In this town, there are numerous wineries and the wine museum.

Note: Activities and schedules shown in the program may undergo modifications due to weather reasons.

Intermediate level (equivalent to Gallop 4)

Intermediate deals with a rider with a firm walk (confident and in control at all paces throughout including trotting and cantering), but does not ride regularly. Please note that should have gallops qualification, Riding & Sun shows the equivalence of such qualifications to the minimum level required for the route. This is not applicable to carriage driving.

All activities will be carried out with and by professionals in the equestrian and riding areas. Equestrian riding technicians and equestrian guides are highly qualified as equestrian and mountain guides with extensive professional experience.
