Guided by multilingual equestrian guides, you will explore the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Sierra del Rincón, a reservation of an amazing biodiversity. Riding & Sun has looked for the most unforgettable routes to spend your holidays on horseback. This holiday will bring you to unique places in the most natural environment.
During the holiday, you will stay in a in double / twin room with bathroom in various accommodations provided by Riding & Sun in Buitrago del Lozoya, Horcajuelo de la Sierra, La Hiruela, Puebla de la Sierra, Montejo de la Sierra, and Prádena del Rincón.”
You will be transferred from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) (the cost is not included) to the riding center in Buitrago where you will meet your guide, Dani. You will visit the equestrian center to check the facilities and horses. There will also be an evaluation of riders level. The first dinner and stay overnight will be in a hotel in Buitrago de Lozoya.
After your breakfast, you will start from the riding center in Buitrago de Lozoya, a small village in the middle of the mountains with traditional old stone houses on 974 meters of altitude. From there, you will explore a beautiful part of Spain, riding free from traffic and walkers, following secret trails in the wonderful countryside. You will reach Horcajuelo de la Sierra (1,145 meters of altitude), one of the best preserved scenic reserves in the region of Madrid with a rich and varied nature. Its isolation and way of life is one of the few regions that have managed to remain almost intact. Dinner and stay overnight will be in Horcajuelo de la Sierra.
You are going to ride through a spectacular landscape of high mountains. You will ride to La Hiruela (1,257 meters of altitude), located of the east side of the mountain range of Somosierra. The tour will go on the IE-041 equestrian itinerary. Depending on the time of year and meteorological conditions, you will arrive at the peak of Pico Peña Cebollera Vieja which is also called Tres Provincias (2,129 meters of altitude). You will ride back to the IE-041. Dinner and stay overnight will be in La Hiruela.
This morning ride will be through woods and beautiful mountains. You will follow the equestrian itinerary from day 3. Lunch will be at Puebla de la Sierra, a magic small village with traditional old stone houses (1,163 meters of altitude). In the afternoon, you will follow the awesome Collado Salinero and El Ramal route. Overnight stay will be at a beautiful and comfortable rural hotel in Puebla de la Sierra.
Today will be another amazing long day ride, a day with great contrasts in the landscape. You will take again the important IE-041 equestrian itinerary through large areas of oaks. The progressive ride gets to highland Montejo de la Sierra (2,000 meters of altitude), close to the mountains of Somosierra in the Sistema Central. You will visit the sixteenth-century little church Ermita de la Soledad. Dinner and stay overnight will be in Montejo de la Sierra.
After breakfast, you will enjoy the excellent terrain for riding, mostly open fields with magnificent views and paths that follow the course of Jarama's river and important beech forest area called Hayedo de Montejo. The landscapes are full of light, color, and nature: oaks, elm trees, holm oaks, riparian forest, and aromatic plants. You will be surrounded by the awesome mountain range of Sierra de Somosierra and the Macizo de Ayllon. Lunch, dinner, and accommodation will be at Prádena del Rincón (1,800 meters of altitude), a small charming village.
On your final riding day, there will be great views of the peaks of the Sierra de Somosierra. You will descent towards the landscape where you started. Your return path leads to Buitrago de Lozoya.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Madrid. All riders will be transferred at the same time. If any rider needs to arrive in Madrid prior to noon, an alternative transfer will be arranged (at an extra cost).

During the horse riding holiday, you will have a visit to the sixteenth-century little church Ermita de la Soledad.
Dani is an experienced equestrian guide. After living several years in Canada, he returned to his equestrian center. He has more than 20 years of experience working with horses and people.
During this holiday, you will explore The Sierra del Rincón in Spain. The Sierra del Rincón was declared Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO in July 2005. It is just one hour by car from Madrid. It has really spectacular landscapes, beautiful mountainous towns with wooden and stone constructions, a great variety of ecosystems, and is the example of reservation of an amazing biodiversity; it is a place that you must visit. There are more than 1,000 species of animals and plants, of which 140 are weird, endemic animals and others appear in the Regional Catalogue of Threatened Species. It seems that time has stopped.
During this horse riding holiday, you will be served full-board meals, wine, water, and soft drinks. You will also have packed lunches en-route.
