The activities are enhanced through the use of quality horses, local landscapes, the Flint Hills nature trail, an 1870’s cemetery, plants, and wildlife observation. Salt Creek Ranch horse motel provides a quiet, safe, and convenient overnight facility for those traveling with their horses. Here, you will find graveled campsites, all with easy access for larger rigs. Four of the six sites offer electric service and water. Spacious outdoor pens, indoor stalls, tie rails, and arena are available near the campsites.
The area is very quiet. You can feel free to visit any of the several restaurants in the area with on-site management to watch over your animals. Restroom and laundry facilities are available for you to use. Trailers can pull into a site, hook up, relax and spend a restful night. Next morning, just unhook and pull straight out - no backing up which is simple, easy, and convenient. However, please do not back your trailer into a campsite after dark. Outdoor pens and arena are close to all campsites, making it easy to care for your animals during your overnight stay.
Salt Creek Ranch is excited to offer the B & I Bunkhouse. You can enjoy a quiet evening on the front porch, overlooking the native grass pastures, the outdoor pens, and campground. The bunkhouse features two climate-controlled sleeping rooms, each furnished with two extra long twin beds and a large shared bath complete with laundry facilities. The close location to the Flint Hills Nature Trail makes the B & I Bunkhouse an excellent addition to the cyclist's and equestrian's adventure.
The Osage County, Kansas, farm displays various types of terrain ranging from planted hay fields, native prairie pastures, and wooded trails with creek beds. Slow, peaceful horseback travel allows you to relax and take in the plentiful plant life native to the area as well as the awesome Kansas skies. The adventurous can even follow the deer and blue heron tracks along the creek beds.
Spans approximately two hours here on the ranch. In addition to the above attractions, the final half hour will be spent visiting an 1870’s cemetery that lies within Salt Creek Ranch property.
Limited to a more experienced rider desiring an afternoon trip down the Flint Hills Nature Trail. Enjoy beautiful scenery, a multitude of wildlife, wildflowers in season, and long-horned cattle when the herd is home. This ride also spans approximately two hours.
Salt Creek Ranch is excited to share their passion for this lifestyle with you! Salt Creek Ranch own ten registered American Quarter horses and the two cutest Haflinger ponies in the state. The horses have helped raise their children and now the grandkids, not to mention a long list of friends. Salt Creek Ranch stress good horsemanship over simply "using" horses and taking time to develop both Salt Creek Ranch personnel and their horses' abilities. Prior to each ride, every guest participates in basic horsemanship instruction to insure the safety of both guests and horses. Salt Creek Ranch place a weight limit of 200 pounds for each participant.
Carol Retzer is the owner of Salt Creek Ranch. Since 1991, Carol has engaged in traveling the Santa Fe trail on horseback, traveling from 80 to 260 miles each ride. For six years, Carol and his husband Rick organized this ride, leading from 20 to 80 people across the Kansas landscape. These days, Carol takes every opportunity to ride one of the ranch’s many seasoned trail horses to work.
