In the morning you head to the mountains to meet up with the mighty Eyjafjallajökull glacier. For the second riding tour you head down to the black beach of the Atlantic Ocean. This riding tour is perfect to practice the famous extra gait that the Icelandic horses have; the tölt! The trails take you around the mountain Eyjafjöll and pass the famous waterfall Seljalandsfoss. You continue on good riding paths and slowly leave the civilization. And as you go further you will cross some small rivers before you un-tack the horses and jump into the truck which will take you over the final river Krossá. The guides will make sure the horses get over the river and you soon reach Húsadalur, where you have a dinner buffet in the restaurant and a well-deserved rest. Also it is possible here to enjoy a natural hot tub or go in the sauna.

  • Facilities: Natural hot spring, sauna, showers and bathroom (shared), bar / restaurant, Wi-Fi.

Day 4: Riding tours in and around Þórsmörk

In the morning you will ride in the area called Almenningar, an area where locals leave their sheep to graze over the summertime. The area is beautiful with great mountain and glacier views in nice weather. Along the way the guides can tell you lots of stories about the area, as well as the names of the mountains, rivers, and glaciers you will see. After this approximately 4-hour riding tour you ride back to Húsadalur for lunch and a small rest. When you have reloaded your batteries, you will saddle some fresh horses for a riding tour into the magnificent ravine Stakkholtsgjá. This area has been used a lot as a decor in movies, and when you see it you will understand why! This second riding tour is a bit shorter and will take about two hours. After this riding tour you head back to Húsadalur for a good meal, a nice hot tub or sauna and your second night.

Today you ride the horses back home. After you had a good breakfast and packed your bags, you will ride over the river Krossá and head back the same beautiful way you came on the third day. By this time you know the horses well and you will have a good pace. At home in Skálakot there will be a last dinner waiting for you, and of course the hot tub to relax the muscles after the long riding day!

  • Accommodation: Skálakot dormitory (sleeping bag accommodation).
  • Facilities: shared bathroom/shower, hot tub, Wi-Fi.
