There is a story. In olden times, there lived an old man called Hargita. The Creator gave him the task of caring for this wonderful land as though it was his own flesh and blood. His spirit lives on today in every flower, every animal, every tree, every singing bird and each clear river. You can still feel him there. For horse riders seeking a feeling for times long past when horses ruled the roads, Hargita country is definitely a place to discover. Those who wish to have a unique experience of this wild and unspoiled area of Europe are invited to join Soparkut Panzio team in an unforgettable horse riding adventure.
In county Harghita, 14 kilometers from Odorheiu Secuiesc, 31 kilometers from Miercurea Ciuc, is Homorod Furdo (750 meters high from the sea level). At this location, you can find Soparkut Panzio on an area of 20,000 square meters on a silent place in the wood. Soparkut Panzio is looking forward to welcoming you and your groups of friends with their traditional Szekely hospitality.
At the horse farm on the yard of the pension, there are horses and riding on them you can admire the wild landscapes of Hargita. Their hobby pet-farm delights all dear visitors. The living quarters has four two-bedrooms with own bathroom and six four-bed rooms with own bathroom. The rooms are available also in wintertime (can be heated).
Arriving to Soparkut guesthouse. There will be a friendly dinner, conversation about the trip, and introduction to the route.
Have breakfast and then pack only the bare necessities that can be packed into two saddle bags. In each point, you will receive your luggage, taken by the team's jeep. After being introduced to the horses, you will depart from the western slopes of the Hargita mountains. The path crosses ancient forests and beautiful meadows fragrant with wildflowers.
You also have the option of riding through Vargyas Gorge. East of the Homorodalmas village is located the picturesque Vargyas Gorge which is perhaps the village's most important touristic asset. In the gorge, a number of caves are located. A 1500 meter long cave was named after the geographer of the Székely Land Balázs Orbán. The cave was inhabited by man even in prehistoric times, later, in the Middle Ages villagers used it as a fortified refuge.
The micro-region’s most important natural area, the Gorge is a wonder of karst topography. At more than 900 hectares, the gorge is dominated by 200 metre white limestone cliffs which, beyond their beauty, are an increasingly popular climbing area. Beneath the cliffs lies a 7.5 kilometer cave system, home to 17 species of bats, and a haven for cave explorers.
The mid day picnic will take place near a mountain stream, in Kek vize feje. Meanwhile, the horses will have a chance to rest and drink. In the afternoon, you will arrive back at your starting place, to “Soparkut” for a typical Szekler dinner.
You will start your riding route from the western slope of the Hargita Mountains at 780 meters altitudes. The Sopárkút guesthouse is located in a beautiful forest glade, 14 kilometers from Odorheiu Secuiesc and at 31 kilometers from Miercurea-Ciuc, near Băile Homorod. From there, you have an amazing view over the extended plateau of Cekend and the Hargita Mountains.
In springtime, you will traverse Europe’s largest daffodil field and extensive pastures where herds of horses graze peacefully. From there, you follow a circular route around the Harghita and the Csiki Mountains.
Hargita County, situated in Eastern Transylvania, is a land of picturesque landscape and ambient climate. Dusty trails and rocky forest roads criss-cross the Hargita and Csiki Mountains in all directions, creating a horse-riding paradise. The Hargita Mountains are one of the most spectacular mountain ranges in the ecologically and culturally distinct region of Eastern Carpathia. At its center, the Csiki basin is famous for its rejuvenating springs, folklore and colorful landscape.
