Enjoy the unique experience of riding through millenary forests, steep mountain slopes up to the foot of a mighty volcano. Sure-footed Chilean bred horses will take you to places that seem to be out of a "Lord of the Rings" movie. You'll get a thorough instruction of the Western riding style based on biomechanically and anatomically correct riding and an understanding of the horse's natural behavior. Additional riding or horsemanship lessons are offered as an alternative to short hacks.
Suizandina Lodge is a cozy Swiss-style lodge with a large park-like garden. There are three different houses:
The hotel rooms in the main house are kept in wood and thus have a cozy atmosphere. Central heating assures a comfortable temperature at any time. The sanitary installations and general cleanliness satisfy even the most demanding guest. In the Main House, you can choose between five rooms, each with a private bathroom
The independent guesthouse, 20 meters from the main house, has three rooms with four cabin beds each and one room with four cabin beds and a double bed. All rooms have a private bathroom. In the center of the building, there is a kitchen and a living room for common use.
The cabin situated just 30 meters from the main house and was built on the side of a hill, offering a beautiful view of the stunning landscape around, therefore, the name Vista Hermosa. It provides a room for up to six persons, a matrimonial room, a room with two bunk beds, a kitchen for six persons, and a bathroom with shower and a separate bathtub. The closed fireplace in the living room provides a cozy atmosphere and invites the guests to spend relaxing evenings together.
The horses roam free in a herd all year round and, therefore, are physically and mentally balanced which makes them perfect partners even for less experienced riders. After a day of intensive riding, you can enjoy the quiet surroundings of the lodge, have a yummy Swiss or Chilean style dinner or get a lift to the nearby hot springs.
With over 35 years of experience in different riding styles, fair riding and horse welfare are her priority. Swiss born, she left her country and her profession as a physiotherapist 14 years ago to start a new life in Chile. Together with her husband and her nine-year-old daughter, they live in the rural south of Chile, where they took over a beautiful Swiss-founded mountain lodge. Apart from guiding trail rides, she loves to teach horses and riders to improve their communication on horseback, as well as on the ground.
This small paradise lies amidst unique nature, embedded between dense native forest with monkey puzzle trees, colorful mountain lakes, crystal-clear rivers, and snowcapped volcanoes.
The lodge is situated right in the heart of the many attractions of the Araucanía Andina region. In a shoestring, you can visit the National Park Conguíllio, the National Park Tolhuaca, and the National Reserve Malalcahuello-Nalcas, climb or ski the volcanoes Tolhuaca, Llaima, Sierra Nevada, and Lonquimay with its side crater, Cráter Navidad, and relax in one of the three nearby hot springs, Termas de Malalcahuello, Termas de Manzanar, and Termas de Tolhuaca.
Whether you like to trek, bike, ski, snow-shoe, ride a horse, fish, observe birds, or just relax, you have got everything just at the doorstep of Suizandina. Suizandina is famous for its rich breakfast with fresh and local ingredients, homemade bread, muffins, cereals, yogurt, and jams. After a day with a lot of outdoor activity, what could be more rewarding than a special dinner? The lodge proudly serves Swiss specialties like raclette, cheese fondue, knöpfli, or rösti. Also, they offer homemade pasta or a hearty homemade Chilean dish. For dessert, it is hard to resist the parfait de Maison or the apple strudel, or a variety of homemade cakes. If you have any food restrictions or special wishes, the chef will be happy to cater to your needs.
There a three national parks or reserves close by where you could easily add some days of trekking to your program. Also, the lodge rents bicycles and there is the possibility of a kayak tour on the close by Cautín river; also, there are three hot springs nearby.
Your host, Ivana, is a professional physiotherapist and will attend to any sores or aches; or just simply give you a relaxing massage after a long day of riding.
Maquehue Airport

Please arrange your flight to arrive at Maquehue Airport (PZS). There are flights from all the major cities in Chile to this airport. The flight from Santiago takes 50 minutes and costs approximately 150 USD, depending on the season. If you sit on the left side of the plane you can enjoy the extraordinary view over the Andes! From the airport, there are mini-buses that take you to the city center of Temuco (40 USD fee to Temuco by minibus).
If requested, the lodge will organize your transfer from the airport directly to Suizandina. A minibus for up to 10 people is available even upon short-term notice. The cost per trip with a driver is approximately 150 USD.
There is a direct overnight connection from Santiago's "Terminal Central" every night, arriving directly in front of the hotel at around 7:30 a.m.
