Come to Canada and enjoy a horse riding holiday with Sundance Guest Ranch! Whether you’re a seasoned rider who loves that adrenaline rush of galloping over the countryside on a spirited and responsive horse or a first-timer who is quite content taking it easy, it doesn’t matter. Just relax, you’re going to love taking a horse riding holiday here. Single or bringing the whole family, Sundance Guest Ranch is with you every step of the way. Experience the best possible combination of fun, adventure, and safety riding!
You will be accommodated in an air-conditioned room with a private bath and great beds at Sundance Guest Ranch. The ranch is on a single level and each room is accessible from a covered wooden boardwalk. “Roughing it” may sound romantic but it doesn’t always feel so good. This is why all of the rooms are air-conditioned with full private bathrooms.
The sunny outdoor decks are a great place to sit back and enjoy a book or socialize with new and old friends, grab a drink, put your feet up, and enjoy the view. The large heated pool is a great place to cool off after a ride or soak up some sun. The kids will love the diving board while adults can relax in one of the many comfortable lounge chairs.
Groups may be broken up by riding ability or by groups of friends and family who wants to ride together; it’s all very flexible. Each group of riders is accompanied by an experienced wrangler who will give you all the instruction you need to make your horseback experience as safe and fun as possible.
Sundance Guest Ranch offers two rides a day, with each ride lasting two to two and a half hours through some of that spectacular scenery they mentioned earlier; you’ll see what they mean. Some of Sundance Guest Ranch have lived here for nearly 40 years and when the light is just right, the view still stops them in the tracks.
You’ve heard about the warm and sunny climate but are you worried the summer weather might be too hot for riding? No worries! If it really starts to cook, you can skip the afternoon ride and have a beautiful evening ride instead. These are the long days of summer Canadians wait for all year and after an afternoon spent by the big beautiful pool, maybe with that book you’ve been meaning to read all year and maybe an afternoon nap in your air-conditioned room, you will mount up after dinner and head out for a truly magical experience.
The desert climate cools off quickly when the sun starts to go down making for prime riding time and there are few things more romantic than watching the sun go down from the back of a good horse. You’ll return in the cool twilight to a generous spread of refreshments served at the home ranch. When you hop off your horse at the end of the day, you might be walking funny for a few steps but Sundance Guest Ranch guarantees you’ll be smiling.
The minimum age for horseback riding is eight years old (proof of age may be required). Children under eight may enjoy parent-led pony rides in the arena and Sundance Guest Ranch offers a free supervised children’s program for ages four to seven midweek (Monday morning through Friday mornings) during the months of July and August.
Big green lawns for running and playing and a large dedicated room with toys, games, and crafts keep your little ones entertained while you are out riding (or just enjoying the pool or taking a nap, it’s your holiday too!). Sundance Guest Ranch is here to make sure your kids have as much fun as you do. Take a look around the ranch and see all the fabulous and safe spaces to play.
Sundance has a large crew of wranglers in order to give you the most wonderful riding experience as possible. Rides are kept small (usually five or six riders at most) in order to give you the best possible combination of fun, adventure, and safety. Sundance will use the information you provide to select the best horse for you.
Sundance Guest Ranch requires height, weight, and riding experience upon booking for everyone intending to go horseback riding. Sundance Guest Ranch will use this information to select the best horse for you and if it’s a “match” (that is if both you and the horse are happy), that is generally your horse for the duration of your stay. Sundance Guest Ranch reserves the right to limit the availability of horseback riding due to anything which may in their judgment pose a threat to the health and safety of either horse or rider.
Weight limitations are in effect for the safety of the guests and for the health of the horses. Accurate height, weight, and riding experience (based on novice, intermediate, or advanced) are required upon booking for each rider in the group. Please be honest and accurate when providing your information as Sundance Guest Ranch will not take responsibility for failure to provide horseback riding due to incorrect information being given. Sundance Guest Ranch respectfully requests no riders over 230 pounds (104 kilograms).
Sundance Guest Ranch is located in one of the warmest, sunniest spots in Canada with sweeping, panoramic views of the wide-open Thompson River Valley that are so beautiful. It is just four hours from Vancouver, Canada, in the beautiful British Columbia interior and accessible via three different scenic routes, making it a perfect getaway destination.
Sundance Guest Ranch serves absolutely four-hour food that goes well beyond what you might expect from a "dude ranch". Sundance is almost as famous for the food as it is for the horses. At breakfast, help yourself to the buffet or order the daily special from the grill (specials range from strawberry-topped french toast to eggs benedict).
After that, set menus will include anything from classic charcoal-grilled steaks and burgers to sophisticated international cuisine. Comfort food, kicked up a notch, is what they aim for. Vegetarians and those with special dietary requirements will also be well looked after by the talented chef.
The licensed dining room overlooks the pastures where the horses spend the night grazing. Choose some wine from the list and relax as you watch the evening jingle. That’s when the horses run out to the sprawling pastures for the night. There are not too many places left in the world where you can watch 100 horses galloping free together. It’s a sight that never gets old. Please note that lunch is not available on check-in days in July and August.
The adults-only BYOB bar lounge is the center of the ranch and over the years has been the venue for some legendary parties. The room hasn’t changed much since the 1960’s with a huge stone fireplace and a large bar. The lounge opens onto an outdoor deck where you can cut the dust at the end of the day and swap stories with your fellow riders before getting ready for dinner.
After dinner, there are many places on the ranch to go for the peace, quiet, and tranquility of country living, but the adult lounge on a Friday or Saturday night is usually not one of them. This is also where Sundance Guest Ranch has their weekly country-rock DJ dances every Saturday night.
If you really want to pamper yourself or are feeling sore after a few rides, check with the staffs to schedule a massage session with the registered massage therapist, Susan. She is fantastic and highly recommended by the many relaxed guests.
