Program

About Burabay National Park

There is a Kazakh legend that when God created the world, he gave the area now known as Kazakhstan only the green steppe. The people were disappointed and implored God to bestow some natural beauty on their land. Answering their prayers, God gave them the beautiful oasis that is the Burabay National Park.

Nicknamed the Switzerland of Kazakhstan, Burabay is blanketed with lush green meadows and verdant forests, home to hundreds of animals and birds and crystal blue lakes which are well stocked with myriad species of fish. Visitors flock for the clean air, and picturesque views and to participate in invigorating activities such as hiking and swimming. The region has a continental climate with hot summers and very cold, snowy winters, perfect for skiers. The cliffs and mountains are molded by the weather into fascinating shapes, each of which has its own legend.

  • Three days on Taiburyldyn Shabysy ranch: A picturesque ranch on the outskirts of Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan
  • Five days in one of the most beautiful natural parks in Central Asia
  • Bolshoye Chebachye Lake: A peaceful and scenic lake known for its crystal-clear water and surrounding pine forests, ideal for a relaxing retreat.
  • Lake Borovoe (Burabay Lake): You can take refreshing dips in the crystal blue waters after a long day of horse riding. Meanwhile, the less active can hire rowboats for a lazy day, sailing on the glassy waters, surrounded by alpine peaks.
  • Okzhetpes Rock: A legendary rock formation rising above the lake, associated with local myths about a brave Kazakh girl who leaped from the rock to escape captivity.
  • Kenesary Khan Cave: A cave named after Kazakh leader Kenesary Khan, who used it as a hideout during his resistance against Russian expansion in the 19th century.
  • Botai-Burabay Open-Air Museum: Discover the rich heritage of the Botai culture from the Eneolithic era (3700-3100 BC).
  • Mount Kokshetau: One of the highest peaks in the region, offering a panoramic view of the entire national park. A great place for hiking enthusiasts.
