Accommodation

Three nights of your trip will be spent in a beautiful Kazakh yurt. Sleeping in a traditional yurt is truly magical. The round shape, the wooden floor, and the thin layer of canvas protect you and yet connect you to the nature around you. On warm nights, you can open the top to gaze at the tapestry of stars. On cooler nights, you can nest beside the yurt's crackling wood stove. Two nights, you will sleep in a traditional country house with a mountain view and a wooded hot tub. One of the nights, you will camp out in the forest. Bring your own camping gear.

Location

The retreat will take place in Harghita, Transylvania, Romania. Harghita is a county in the center of Romania in eastern Transylvania. This is the county in which you will ride. Harghita offers a window into the true essence of Transylvania. Here charming villages with unique architectural styles stand as testaments to a rich history. The hooves of Transylvanian Horsetrails' beloved herd will click and clack through the cobbled streets of her charming villages, lined with colorful houses. Unique architectural styles stand as proud testaments to a rich history.

The inhabitants here are mainly Székely people, descendants of Hungarian tribes. The Székely people are known for their rich cultural heritage, strong traditions, and warm hospitality. But Harghita is not just about charming villages and villagers. The mountainous and forested regions of Harghita are very suitable for wildlife. Deer, foxes, eagles, and brown bear sightings are not uncommon. Do you dare to ride with Transylvanian Horsetrails?

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Most people come by plane to Romania and fly into Cluj-Napoca International Airport (CLJ) or Transilvania Tí¢rgu MureÅŸ International Airport (TGM).Transylvanian Horsetrails advises you to start booking your tickets as soon as possible as prices might rise in time.

When you arrive in Romania there are several ways to reach basecamp.

Arrival by taxi

Download the Bolt app to order affordable taxis.

Arrival by minibus

Every day there are mini-busses driving from both Cluj Airport and Tg Mures Airport to Corund, where the basecamp is.

Private minibus; for shared transportation. Transylvanian Horsetrails can help set this up.

Arrival by train

You can also come to Romania by train, which can be a fun trip if you prepare for it! How?

You buy an Interrail ticket online at interrail, download the Interrail app and create an account (which is simple). You then make a reservation from the country where you are leaving from by phone call (in the Netherlands you call NS international). You can probably make a reservation up to a certain point, for example from Amsterdam to Budapest or Vienna. There you go to the ticket office in the station and reserve the rest of your trip to Cluj.

It is advisable to reserve a sleeping coach (if desired) in a sleeper train as early as possible in advance. Seats seem to always be available.

Coming by train is about the same price as flying, yet it is a lot more sustainable and adventurous. You can also consider spending a night/day in between train rides in a city of your choice.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 36.3% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 30 days before arrival.
