Your local guide will assist you during your adventure on a contrast between plains, mountains, rivers, and tropical forest of Colombia. The horses are strong and they respect and obey rider, so you will be comfortable along the way. Moreover, this journey will allow you to experience a local cowboy’s day of work. Accommodations will be primary at old ranching haciendas and hotels. These haciendas are mainly ranching places. You will stay at multiple accommodations, with rooms for two, three, or four people. Couples are accommodated separately. Mostly, each room in the hacienda or hotel counts with a private bathroom.


Day 1: Transfer to Oriental Plains

  • Meet and greet in Bogotá.
  • Departure to Villavicencio on a 3-hour bus.
  • Arrival and accommodation at Las Mercedes farm.
  • In the afternoon, you will visit the “caño cascada de los Santos”.

Day 2: Riding Hato de Las Mercedes in rivers and creeks

On this morning, horses and equipment will be handed out to the riders. You will ride for four hours in sceneries filled with creeks and small rivers. Swimming with horses will be a part of this adventure. In the afternoon, you will join the local “Laneros” and learn their customs and how they work. Ropes and a sample of their cowboy ways will make this experience unforgettable. You will stay at Las Mercedes farm.

Day 3: Las Mercedes - Cosmogenesis

A day of the journey through “El Callejón de Pili” is where your historic ranching trip begins. You will pass through orange, pineapple, and African palm crops. Your day will be accompanied by a delicious typical mix of meats and sausages in a place called natural pools. You will sleep in tents at the Eco Hotel Cosmogenesis, ideal for a good rest.

Day 4: Cosmogenesis - El Presentado Farm

You will continue your journey through the old ranching route. In the morning, you will pass through the “vereda de San Nicolás and Cumaral” where huge plains take the scenery. In the afternoon, you will reach the “Presentado” hacienda and there will be “Parrandon llanero”, a traditional party until night.

Day 5: El Presentado Farm (labor day)

Working on the plains is the traditional way local native cowboys work with cattle. They start working at dawn gathering the cattle with their horses and leading them to stables where the cattle are sorted and classified. In Presentado Farm, you will have the chance to experience a local cowboy’s day of work. Ride at dawn on your horses, do a rodeo, and gather cattle in stables would be your day's work.

Day 6: Finca El Presentado - Palo a Pique

You will ride through the Oriental Colombian foothills, a place where the tropical rain forest prevails. Paths full of Colombian flora and fauna will make your journey a pleasant trip. You will finally arrive at the “Hacienda Palo a Pique” hotel, a place designed to keep tradition and respecting the surroundings with a touch of modern society and unique comfort.

Day 7: Palo a Pique - Las Mercedes Farm

You will ride back to Las Mercedes, passing through rivers and swimming with the horses. As your morning ends, you will have a delicious BBQ on the riverside, with beverages and typical local fruits. At night, you will have a farewell dinner as your journey comes to an end.

Day 8: Transfer Villavicencio - Bogotá

Get to the bus to Bogotá.


Horses used on your journey are Colombian Criollo working horses. They are strong and good riding horses. They are comfortable walking horses that respect and obey the rider.

Riding saddles

Riding saddles are native. Each saddle brings saddlebags and raincoats.

You will experience riding the La Ruta Ganadera in Colombia. Oriental Colombian foothills gather and offer a contrast between plains, mountains, rivers, and tropical forests, forming one of the most impressive landscapes to ride by a horse. To ride by a horse on this route is to revive ancient “llanero” traditions, the true Colombian cowboys.


You will be served breakfast, lunch, and dinner per day from the first-day lunch until the last day breakfast. Gastronomy is one of Valle Verde Horseriding's strong cards and a principal attraction in the journey. During your trip, food is always traditional from Colombia with meats, chicken, pork, and all classes of Colombian gastronomy. Fruits, juices, and traditional desserts local from every place are also available. Meals are always served with a beverage.

There will be an open bar for all the trip that can be purchased on the first day and will be active on special occasions. The price for this service costs an additional 110 USD.
