When your Icelandic Horse ride has ended, and you've returned to the farm and dismounted, Vermont Icelandic Horse Farm's hospitality has only begun. For a complete Vermont vacation experience, they invite you to stay with them at the Mad River Inn, a rambling 1860's-era Victorian country house which is a relaxing complement to a day in the saddle. You can soak in the hot tub, sleep restfully in the feather beds, and awake to a gourmet country breakfast. In season, they will serve it on your back porch overlooking the meadow.

The Mad River Inn is on a quiet side road, just off Route 100. It's convenient to the farm and to all the attractions that the Mad River Valley has to offer. This Bed and Breakfast is located in Central Vermont in the Historic town of Waitsfield of the Mad River Valley where Sugarbush ski resort and Mad River Glen ski areas are. Erected circa 1860, the lovely renovated Inn was built from the wood of the land and boasts hardwood floors and decorative crown moldings throughout. Lace-etched 5 x 5 inches picture windows and period antiques adorn the living and dining areas. Each guest room is uniquely decorated and features feather beds, or a memory foam mattress topper, and private baths.

Program

On this treks, you will really experience the exceptional riding comfort and stamina of the Icelandic Horse. You'll pass across beautiful meadows, over sparkling streams, and through lush woods, and be able to explore many of the features of the mountainous Mad River Valley. The tours feature plenty of opportunities to enjoy foliage and activities like studying birds and wildlife. To loosen up and avoid getting sore, you do some hiking while leading the horses. You can explore a tempting swimming hole, stop and pick a mouthful of berries, or just relax while enjoying the scenery.

All tours are led by experienced horse persons with thorough knowledge of the area and its trails. Guides are also trained in emergency health care. You'll enjoy very comfortable accommodations and gourmet dining, all with a generous helping of Vermont hospitality. The lodging features a beautiful setting and excellent cuisine. For lunch, you will bring either a delicious picnic to eat at a pretty spot or you stop at a specially selected restaurant.

Note: Children over 10 years old with riding experience are welcome if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
