Volunteer working riders stay at Nguni House which is next door to the guest house, or the guest house depending on availability. They are across the road from Wild Coast Horse Riding Adventures home. It has 4 double rooms so that each of the riders has their own bedroom. The house has two bathrooms, one with shower and one with bath and a second separate toilet.
If you stay at the guest house the rooms are en-suite. It has lovely newly renovated open plan living and dining room with French doors into the garden. There is a covered braai patio in the garden. The kitchen is old-fashioned farm style with everything you need and space to store snacks and drinks, etc.
On this 4-week holiday, you will get a free mini beach trail that will take you to stay for three days and two nights at Wavecrest Hotel and Spa.
Wild Coast Horse Riding Adventures' horses live out 24/7 in paddocks situated at the Kei Mouth Country Club about 2.5km from where we live. We go to the yard everyday at 8am, and bring the horses in for feeding, grooming and checking. The rest of the morning is spent riding and schooling the horses or taking out any beach rides that are booked.
After lunch rides depend on how hot it is and in winter, we need to be back before the sunsets. The horses are fed again in the afternoon and turned out for the night.
The schedule changes from week to week, and revolves around beach ride bookings and the overnight trails arriving and departing, so there is always something different and interesting happening.
At Wild Coast Horse Riding Adventures, they offer a unique opportunity for horse lovers to truly immerse themselves and experience the joy of being with and riding horses day after day along the stunning Wild Coast of South Africa. Join for an extended holiday to rejuvenate your inner love of horses, reconnect with who you are, and restore your soul.
The inter-connection between horses and people is an integral part of their beliefs, environment, and the way that they work with the horses and the visiting riders. Therefore, their horsemanship is geared towards gentle interaction and communication with their equine friends.
The horses work hard, and they expect the best from them. It is their responsibility to ensure that they live in the most comfortable and natural way possible to enable them to do their job to the very best of their abilities. As the guest, you become part of this equine philosophy.
Bring along your spirit of adventure and a love of great outdoors and escape to the horse filled life in South Africa. The horses are much loved; they are a mixture of Arab, Boerperd, Thoroughbred, and Percheron crosses that are perfect for trail riding. You will be delighted by how gentle, well trained, and friendly they are!
The trail team is kept endurance fit to be able to complete the adventure trails along the coast, while the younger horses are brought on carefully with ground work and schooling. While you are with Wild Coast Horse Riding Adventures, you become part of their family and are made to feel welcome in the relaxed and comfortable home from home called Nguni House.
You participate in and are part of the daily routine of caring for the horses and stable yard and understanding and practicing the principles of holistic horse care of horses that live out all year round in the African bush.
The horses live out 24/7 in paddocks situated at the Kei Mouth Country Club about 2.5 km from the house where you live. You go to the yard every day and bring the horses in for feeding, grooming, and a preventative health check. The mornings are spent riding and schooling the horses or going out on a beach or bush ride. Afternoon rides depend on how hot it is and in winter, and you need to be back before the sunsets. The horses are fed again in the afternoon and turned out for the night.
Take part in an awesome one day ‘Riding with Touch workshop’ run by Klara Webb (included free in all packages). This is an introduction to Ride with Your Mind and TTouch methodologies.
Olympic Event rider Ingrid Klimke, who rode with Wild Coast Horse Riding Adventures a few years back uses TTouch as part of her training program. These principles are part of the foundation that the horses schooling has been built upon, and what makes them exceptional trail horses.
In the first part of your holiday, you will do a Riding with Touch workshop with Klara Web. With newfound skills and perceptions to apply to the horses for the rest of your stay, it will change your mindset on how you are connected.
Then, the rest of the time is more riding, more walks, more soaking up the remoteness of where you are, and the raw beauty of the place that you call home.
Stay four or more weeks and a free mini beach trail is included onto your itinerary! You will do a 3 days 2 nights jaunt to Wavecrest Hotel and Spa. This is a super 3 days of riding, exploring, and adventure.
Now you feel like you are part of the family, the dogs start asking you to go for walks, and you know all the horses by name. You settle into the gentle rhythm of being with the horses, riding, exploring, drinks with new friends, and braais on the weekend.
The skills you were taught in the Riding with Touch workshop are well practiced, and the highlight of your escape will be a this jaunt up the coast to Wavecrest.
And somewhere amongst all these adventures and riding you’ll hopefully keep up with your work and emails (no one really needs to know how much you like this remote working scenario).
All riding and itineraries are subject to change due to variations in local conditions, hotel accommodation availability, rider’s abilities, the weather, and the influences of the sea tides and during the rainy season the conditions of the rivers at the time of riding.
This is a horse riding holiday, and guest should be comfortable in walk, trot, and canter. There is a lovely selection of horses that suit a wide range of riding ability from novice level - up. For the Equestrian Connection, the weight limit is 90 kg.
Your riding program will be tailored to suit your riding ability and experience as this holiday can accommodate all riding levels. Please see which of the below fits your level:
