Itinerary
Day 1
On arrival at East London Airport (ELS), you will be transferred to Kei Mouth and the beach base of Wild Coast Horse Trails and their equestrian colleagues. A light snack will be served at the Kei Mouth Guest House, and you will change into your riding clothes. Your horse riding adventure starts now!
The afternoon ride will take you on an hour or so ride to assess your riding and make sure that they have matched you to the right horse. You will go down to the river mouth and you will have a chance to have your first canter along the beautiful beaches. Overnight and dinner in Kei Mouth.
Day 2
Today you explore the magnificent Morgan Clifftops - you really are on the edge of Africa as you sit perched on your horse and take in the views. Then it is off to discover Yellowwood Forest - Wild Coast Horse Riding Adventures' favourite place for wood-fired pizza and forest fare - and a place that inspires them to be eco friendly, off the grid, and recycle everything!
You will finish the day with a canter down the Morgan Bay beach before heading back to the paddocks. Overnight and dinner in Kei Mouth.
Day 3
Today you begin your trail along the coast and cross the Great Kei River with you horse on a ferry! The ride takes you along the beach to a quaint beach resort nestled in the sand dunes. After lunch, there is another jaunty ride exploring the area. Dinner and overnight at Seagulls Beach Hotel.
Day 4
Today you explore hidden trails and waterfalls, meander through rural villages and greet to local Xhosa as they go about their daily life in this breathtakingly beautiful part of the Wild Coast. Dinner and overnight at Seagulls Beach Hotel.
Day 5
Today you ride to Wavecrest Hotel. It is a full morning riding along the coast, and the scenery is simply stunning. There is a good chance of spotting dolphins racing you in the surf as you canter along the many beaches. Lunch at Wavecrest, and a chance to soak up the sun and sea at the hotel in the afternoon. Overnight and dinner at Wavecrest Hotel.
Day 6
The departure time this morning is dictated by the tide. It is a fantastic 3-hour ride either up the beach and back across the country through rolling hills and traditional villages or the other way around, depending on the tides. Either way, you get to ride on the hard, wet beach at low tide – the gallops are exhilarating. You are back at the hotel in time for lunch. Alternatively, if the weather and tides are favourable you may take a picnic lunch with you.
This afternoon has a choice of activities. You can take a boat trip up the river and explore the stunning mangrove estuary of the Nxaxo river by canoe or boat, hike, or just kick back and relax in the Jacuzzi! This afternoon is flexible as there are so many options to experience!
Dinner and overnight at Wavecrest Hotel.
Day 7
Today you start your journey back to Kei Mouth. You ride inland this morning, crossing the river high up and away from the influence of the tides. The slay paths and track offer great canters as you wind your way back to the beach. Then you head towards Kei Mouth, a pub lunch en route and the pontoon crossing before dropping the horses off at the paddocks. Dinner and overnight Kei Mouth.
Day 8
Your last morning depends on your flight plans and what time the shuttle needs to pick you up to get you back to the airport. If there is time, one last ride will be squeezed in!
