Kintyre is a place that time forgot. Well off the beaten track, and surrounded by a beautiful coastline and stunning island views, this place is full of wildlife and steeped in Scottish history and folklore. This holiday includes 3 full days trail-riding plus 3 nights all-inclusive accommodation. It is a short but very sweet, action-packed adventure for anyone limited on time but still big on adventure. Be immersed in all things horse within this glorious and beautiful setting and let us take you on the adventure of your dreams, be that climbing mountains, galloping beaches or swimming horses in the sea!
You’ll stay in a remote, 150-year-old Scottish farmhouse and feast on delicious homegrown and local produce morning, noon, and night. With comfortable and characterful accommodation and beautifully eccentric hosts, your evenings are as much of an adventure as the riding.
This trip is NOT suitable for beginner riders but is open to novice riders who are competent at rising trot and have at least some experience at canter.
Arrive at the farm (check in from 4pm) in time to settle before dinner at 7pm. Relax into your surroundings, and let the banter start flowing. Share your own horse history and set your wish list for the trip.
The trip will start with a morning of getting to know your horse, with some grooming and massage and a little horsemanship work. This will start building your relationship with your new steed, forming a solid foundation for the trip ahead. After lunch, take that newfound friendship and test it over an afternoon hack away the farm towards the hills of the next day’s ride. Get familiar with your steed over diverse terrain and start to get a sense of the adventures your hosts have in store for you over the rest of the week!
You will hit the hills with a big full day trail ride across the countryside, giving you the chance to bond with your horse and enjoy wide open views. Navigate wild terrain and natural obstacles as you traverse the peninsula east to west and along one of its highest ridges. Be prepared for a long day in the saddle, this day is truly the “Call of the Wild”.
Head for the coast. Feel the wind in your hair and the salty, sandy air in your face as hooves thunder down the beach. There is nothing quite like the feeling of freedom and pure joy as horse and rider gun down the sand without a worry in the world. Be prepared for the taste of some of that sand in your teeth as the racing heats up. This day epitomises the “Thunder of Hooves; The Pound of your Heart”. For those not yet comfortable with gallop, do not worry, speed on the beach is optional. At a slower pace, you can enjoy the tranquillity and sparkle of this beautiful coastline. Standard departure is at the end of this day’s riding.
Throughout your trip, you are encouraged to get your ‘hands dirty’ and look after your horse as if it were your own (don’t worry, Wilder Ways supports you to do this). The trust this builds between you and your horse helps to bring the very best out of this journey.
This action packed 3 days will leave you feeling exhilarated, empowered and totally in love with your horse.
This itinerary is an example - exact routes may change due to weather, tides or other factors or be ridden in reverse.
Breakfast is at 8.30 a.m. For lunch, a picnic ‘on the hoof’ will be provided each day.
Each night you will feast at the farmhouse with ‘horse tv’ streaming live from the comfort of the dining room window! Enjoy a home-cooked 2-course meal made with love.
The Wilder Ways team prides itself in homegrown produce (including pork, lamb, veggies, herbs, and fruit) and other top-quality local fayre (i.e. seafood, bread, and cheeses).
Your hosts will eat with you for at least 1 night during the trip to share stories and some great Scottish banter – or as local people call it ‘craic’.
