During the holidays, you will be staying in a quiet area, just a few minutes’ walks from the horse arena. You will be accommodated in a twin-bedded room with private bathroom, fridge, and kitchenette which has an independent entrance and a covered terrace with a little table, two chairs, and a deckchair. The property provides private and closed parking with automatic gate.

There is also an apartment with an independent entrance which has a double room (king size bed), a bathroom, a big living room with a kitchenette, a big table, and six chairs. In the big living room, you can add the two beds (for family). It has also an own nightstand and closet; furthermore, it has a big covered terrace with a table, four chairs, and a deckchair. The whole apartment has a much higher price than just a double room, a two-people reservation can just rent the bedroom, so it is cheaper for the guests as they pay only for the room, not for a whole four-people apartment.

Can we succeed in creating a good partnership between the species "horse" and us? Yes. What we need first is the knowledge of the psychology of this animal. Understand the connection between psychology and anatomy means to understand why horses react in a certain way; it means also building up a cohabitation, made of trust and respect. In this course, you will learn the basics of equine communication, how to handle and ride horses in a safer way, and to create a lifelong friendship with one of the most intelligent and beautiful animals in the world. Children from 10 years on can have the lessons.

Day 1

At any time, you will arrive at the farm. You will be welcomed and have a little meeting where you can chat about your riding experiences in the past and your expectations regarding your holiday with the horses. The rest of day is free to settle.

Day 2

On this day, you will start with the theory part:

  • What kind of animal is the horse?
  • How much its psychology coincides with its anatomy?
  • Horses, its body communicators
  • How to communicate with the horse in its language, made of gestures, and what benefits gives this to you
  • Trust and respect go hand in hand
  • Education and status, the mainstays of relationship, and the basis of all good (or evil)
  • How to be a leader and how much your status coincides with riding
  • How to keep the position, always be consistent and reliable
  • Body communication with horses is not a three days attitude, but a way of living

Day 3

Today's groundwork in the arena:

  • Walk correctly with the horse on your shoulder
  • Walk like a leader (techniques of body communication)
  • Stop / go and walk faster / slower
  • Slalom around the pylons
  • Walking forwards and backwards in trails

Day 4

Today in the round pen, you will rehearse the techniques of a language made of gestures (eyes, arms, turns off your body, hands, fingers, your steps, even the lightest movement counts) and be concentrated, foresighted, alert, and fast as much as you need to show your horse that you are there. You will also establish your position (be aware of your energy and how to use it), built up communication (send the horse to run, change direction, and invite it to come back), and take the leading part (let the horse follow you, free, on your shoulder)

Day 5 to 7

You will have free during time these days.

Day 8

You will depart at 10:00 after breakfast.

Horses and rider ability

For beginners, Wontanna has patient and calm horses to ride in the arena. To make the trails, they don’t take beginners out. To get out on free days, you need to be a good country rider with years of experience and if you want to trot or gallop, you should be able to handle this fast and spirited horses as the pure Arabian and Anglo Arabs are. On the other hand, they are fearless and hardy, going ahead even on granite rocky mountains, climbing like wild goats. Also, road traffic, water, wild boars, bridges, wild dogs, stormy days, and other spooky things, they don't matter, as they are perfectly trained and some of them go even in endurance races.

Horses and safety information

Even if the tamed horses are not wild mustangs or fiery horses from Giara, they’re still horses. It’s true that the work you must do is way less challenging and complicated than the one requested by wild horses, but still, you have some rules to obey. Horses are big, heavy, and especially fast animals. For safety reasons, Wontanna recommends to wear a protective cap during the courses and to sign a disclaimer for Wontanna is required.

The trainer

After a long international training and many years of work with horses, Ina Vargiu realized her dream: a center in which she can drill trainings devoid of any form of coercion and force. Her teacher was the famous Monty Roberts, the man who listens to horses. After attending his classes (introductory and advanced course), she developed her own way to train horses. She attained in 2007 the instructor assistant in Germany, getting a dressage and show jumping classical education. In 2010, she attained in Italy her instructor license (Sports Nazionale) and in 2011, she received her certificate as an operator in Equine Behavior. Beside trekking tours and lessons in the arena, she starts working with young horses, traumatized horses, and tames the wild Sardinian horse (Cavallino Della Giara). Her goal is building up a friendship with the horse, based on trust and communication.
