The Fox Lake or Lake Laberge area contains diverse ecosystems of wetlands (perfect conditions for many species of waterfowl, particularly in the spring), semi-arid foothills, and large areas of new growth from past forest fires. This creates some excellent habitat for various species of waterfowl (ducks and geese), birds of prey (owls, hawks, eagles), herbivores (elk, deer, and moose), and carnivores (coyotes, wolves, and bears). Being in the rain shadow of the coastal mountains, it is blessed by warm, dry summers.

How to get there

Driving directions

Yukon Horsepacking Adventures’ headquarters is nestled in the trees at the south end of Fox Lake, 43 kilometers north from the North Klondike highway and Alaska highway junction, just out of Whitehorse, the capital city of the Yukon Territory. Watch for the Yukon Horsepacking Adventure sign and then turn left off the highway to travel down the road to the ranch. Fox Creek quietly flows through the middle of the ranch from the lake.

When you arrive at the ranch, you will travel over a wooden bridge to get to the ranch headquarters. Stop for a moment on the bridge and you can watch Arctic graylings swimming in the crystal-clear waters below in the creek. The ranch headquarters boasts a log cabin office, a tack shed and hitching rails, an arena, and round pen (to get acquainted with your horse, take riding lessons, or watch riding demonstrations).
