Itinerary
Day 1: Your Journey Begins
Your adventure starts the moment you land at Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, where the Horse Adventures Serbia team will be waiting to welcome you. A scenic drive will take you to the farm, nestled within the serene Povlen Nature Reserve. As the sun sets, you'll enjoy a delicious homemade dinner, meet your fellow riders, and settle into the peaceful rhythms of the countryside.
Day 2: Taorska Vrela
After a hearty breakfast, your first trail ride begins. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you'll embark on a gentle ride to Taorska Vrela, a hidden paradise of crystal-clear springs flowing through lush greenery. This ride allows you to ease into the experience, getting comfortable in the saddle while soaking in the stunning scenery. A picnic lunch by the springs provides the perfect moment to relax before you ride back to the farm, where a warm dinner awaits.
Day 3: Mount Povlen
The real journey into horseback riding begins. Before setting out, you'll receive hands-on instruction on how to properly saddle and prepare your horse, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident. With your newly acquired skills, you head towards Mount Povlen, where sweeping panoramic views stretch as far as the eye can see. Riding through vast meadows and dense forests, you'll experience the freedom of the trail like never before. You pause for a well-earned lunch at a scenic spot before making your way back to the farm.
Day 4: Taor Hills
The adventure continues as you ride through the rolling Taor Hills, a landscape that feels like stepping into a storybook. With each passing day, your connection with your horse strengthens, and your confidence in the saddle grows. Lunches are enjoyed outdoors, surrounded by untamed nature, before you return to the farm for an evening of storytelling and relaxation.
Day 5: Gostoljublje
One of the highlights of your journey is an immersive ride to the ethno village of Gostoljublje, where time seems to stand still. This charming village, with its traditional wooden cottages and authentic Serbian hospitality, offers a glimpse into the country's rich cultural heritage. After an outdoor lunch, settle in for a cozy overnight stay, enjoying a traditional dinner in this unique setting.
Day 6: Gostoljublje - Taor
As you ride back to the farm the next day, you take a different route, unveiling new landscapes and hidden corners of the region. Each trail presents a new perspective, whether it's crossing a babbling brook, riding through golden fields, or catching sight of wildlife along the way.
Day 7: Last Dance
One of the most rewarding moments comes on Day 7, when you take an active role in horse care. You'll learn how to clean a horse's hooves and independently saddle up before setting off on a ride towards Tara National Park. This final full day on horseback takes you through untouched forests, deep valleys, and dramatic mountain views, giving you a true sense of adventure.
Day 8: Return to the Airport
On the last morning, gather for a farewell breakfast before heading back to Belgrade Airport, bringing home unforgettable memories and new riding skills that will last.
More details
Starting this year, Horse Adventures Serbia is offering a new riding program: The Taor Trail, a 6-day combination of Sternritt-style star riding (4 days) and a 2-day point-to-point trail. It was designed for guests with little or no riding experience, with flexible routes close to the ranch. Since it stays near the property, they can easily adjust the pace or shorten the rides if needed.
Taor Trail is also interesting for experienced riders
In particular, they can offer it as an alternative when they don’t have the minimum number of riders for the regular trails. They always separate the groups, so one guide rides with the experienced guests, while one or two guides accompany the less experienced riders.
The trail runs through beautiful landscapes of the Povlen Nature Reserve, with two days exploring further surroundings. It’s available even for solo riders (min. 1 person), and includes full board, airport transfers, and optional add-ons like qigong and massage in July and August.
Children policy
Regarding children's age, they have no strict age limit. They've hosted families with kids as young as 5, some of whom ride better than 12-year-olds.
Horses
At the ranch, they take great care in matching each rider with the most suitable horse, based on the rider’s experience level and weight. For safety and the well-being of the horses, guests cannot choose horses freely – instead, t heguides assign horses based on these important factors.
Here’s an introduction to our horses:
- Španac: A typical Serbian horse with an excellent temperament. Calm, steady, and very popular with guests. Španac has a surefooted gait and a balanced pace – neither too fast nor too slow – making him ideal for riders who enjoy a smooth and relaxed ride.
- Dona: Dona is a spirited mare, daughter of an Akhal-Teke stallion and a Bosnian mountain horse mare. Born and raised on the ranch, she is fast and agile, best suited for experienced riders with a gentle hand. She is one of the fastest horses in the herd and requires a confident, advanced rider.
- Coka: A cross between a local Serbian horse and a purebred Arabian. She has a strong temperament but is easy to ride. Both intermediate and advanced riders can enjoy her speed and responsiveness.
- Garo: A young, fully black horse with a strong and enduring build – typical of modern Serbian horse breeding. Garo is simple and reliable, with a unique character. Even children can ride him under supervision.
- Gigi: A purebred English Thoroughbred with a smaller frame, originally trained for endurance. Gigi has been adapted to mountainous terrain and trails. Obedient, well-natured, and exceptionally fast, he is only given to very experienced riders due to his speed and energy.
- Musa: A strong and straightforward horse with great endurance. He’s a typical Serbian mix and recommended for intermediate to advanced riders. Reliable and steady on the trails.
- Bandit: Another modern Serbian mix, Bandit is a fast horse with a good, obedient character. Due to his energy and speed, he is best suited for experienced riders.
- Žuča: A completely yellow-colored horse with a calm, friendly nature – the darling of the herd. Safe for children and older riders. He has a slower gallop and a long stride, making him an ideal companion for those who prefer a gentler pace.
- Soko: A large black-and-white horse, strong and confident. Soko is often given to heavier riders. With a steady step and friendly temperament, he keeps up with the group easily and is sometimes used as a lead horse.
- Jadran: The alpha of the herd. Powerful, calm, and fast – a typical Serbian horse from the 1980s lineage. Often used by the guides to lead the group. Suitable for confident, experienced riders.
- Mici: A mare with Arabian and Serbian black horse heritage. Fast, agile, and friendly – she can be ridden by moderately experienced riders, though she prefers to move at a faster pace. Rider confidence is important.
- Mila: A cross between a Lipizzaner and an American Trotter. Mila is intelligent, enduring, and surefooted. They’ve known her since she was a foal. Suitable for intermediate to advanced riders.
- Mičko: A strong, dominant horse with a bold personality – another alpha in the herd. He requires an experienced rider with a firm and confident hand.
- Pegas: A classic American Trotter with a calm and kind character. Pegas is one of their most gentle horses and is used exclusively for daytime rides with children and beginners. Safe, dependable, and perfect for first-time riders.
