Blue Mountain Lake Limited

We have booked this riding retreat to finish off our time in New Zealand and we left on a very big high. We were looking forward to scenic mountain views, challenging ourselves with riding and getting to know the people and the culture of Blue Mountain station. Lauren has been a gracious hostess and has also made the trip extra special by understanding our riding level and accommodating us without prejudice. We have got riding experience, however, these horses and terrain are something else to what we have been used to. Powerful, graceful and masterful in navigating tricky terrain, these horses will look after you and give you an electric sense of freedom in enjoying long canters in unspoilt nature. This is definitely not a beginner level ride, so please be aware of that. Our guide Sophia was delightful company full of knowledge and expert guidance, and made the 3 x days of riding truly magical.

Lauren looked after us after riding and made delicious food we enjoyed while getting to know life at Blue Mountain station, and it was also a pleasure meeting Nikita who also looked after us with a smile.

It was great to see the love and care poured into these horses. They are extremely loved, respected and their happiness is evident from miles away. Give them love and respect yourselves when riding and they will make this trip a trip you will not forget.

Horses fabulous; outfitter fabulous; cannot begin to describe how beautiful the rugged lands you ride are; cabin at night with fire so cozy; we were given so much information and history of the area we learned a lot along with an experience I don't think you can find anywhere else

I loved everything about the trip from getting back to basics at the Basin Hut where we bathed in the creek, with food being cooked over an open fire and had no signal/power to the more luxury end at the Lakehouse. Lauren and Sophia were so welcoming and it is very clear how well looked after the horses are. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and each trek brought something different. The food was delicious and the highlight for me was my first go at riding bareback (at a walk) and swimming with the horses - it really was such an amazing experience all around and I was fortunate to have some very lovely ladies on the trip (I booked solo). I'd definitely not hesitate to book again.

The most incredible few days in the mountains with some of the best looked after horses I’ve seen. The scenery was incredible and the accommodation was really homely Sophia chose the speed based on what was comfortable safe and fun for us and the horses and these incredible horses are ALWAYS put first.

To describe one thing is not possible but attention to detail and safety was an overall theme. The horses were chosen for us really well. The location was so stunning from the rivers, river flats, the mountains, the valleys,the quaint but extremely functional and comfortable Shepard's huts. Considering this is a working farm Lauren fits her trek guests in so professionally you feel like family. The accommodation was very cosy and comfortable, the Lakehouse was luxurious. This trip has exceeded my expectations immeasurably and I would urge anybody to do it for yourself for a truly bucket list experience. This was my first trip but in no way my last. Thank you Lauren and Sophia. We were blessed to have this journey.

I really loved the honesty and genuine people that Lauren and Sophia were ! So helpful and I could any questions ( and I asked a lot) ! Accomodation surprises were excellent ! Especially Basin Hut ! Excellent to go back to the basic living ! My horse Thomas was such a pleasure and gave me everything I could ask for ! Nothing like experiencing nature and working’s of a huge sheep station which was a first for me ! Everything about the ride I loved , the hills , the weather , the endless streams of water and highlight , swimming the horses . I left a very happy horse rider from Aussie ! Thanks Everyone ! I loved my time at Blue Mountain Station. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The crew took care of me so well. I was traveling by myself and they made me feel right at home with them. I learned so much about the New Zealand wool industry and their amazing mountain horses. Lauren and her team of horse women are incredible! The animals are obviously treated extremely well and thrive at trekking in the mountains. One of the best experiences of a life time! Thank you Blue Mountain Station :)
