La Somma

I had a wonderful experience on this riding holiday, even as a rider with only a few months of experience. The team matched me with a horse that suited my skill level perfectly and made sure I always felt safe and supported, especially during trotting and cantering. The horses were athletic, sensible, clearly very well cared for, and really knew their job.

The guides were great — we always had one English-speaking guide at the front and another guide at the back to keep the group together, and they split riders by ability when needed, allowing more confident riders to canter while others could continue trotting comfortably. As a solo female traveller sharing a room with another girl, I felt completely safe and well looked after throughout the trip.

The scenery was stunning, with a lovely mix of woodland trails, open spaces, mountain climbs, quiet roads, and charming little villages. The mountain views were especially beautiful. Although the riding is very manageable, I would say riders should be comfortable trotting and have reasonably good balance due to the varied terrain. The food was also amazing and very generous, and I really enjoyed the friendly mixed-ability group.

People of La Somma made this experience unforgettable. I was the less experienced rider in our group but Claire, Agustino and Lorenzo made me feel comfortable and safe during our trekking. Not to mention Andrea with his patience, experience and skills in building riding confidence and putting me back on a track during our lessons in arena. Horses are well cared and loved in this place, and people running this place know exactly which horse matches you best. This place has a soul that is very rare. Thank you La Somma.

Everyone was so friendly and encouraging. The quality of the horses and variety was superb. The different terrains were interesting on the trail rides and spectacular views. I booked before end of March and got 3 free lessons as a bonus. It is always great to learn new things about your riding in the school. I would recommend this holiday. Clare paired me with a fantastic horse, he was responsive and interesting to ride, we had lots of fun! The food was wonderful. The picnic stops were the best.

This is truly a special place! Everything exceeded our expectations! The guides and the family that runs La Somma are all great and made us feel so welcome. The horses are very nice and well taken care of. The trails are breathtaking and thought trough. On top of all this; the food at the local taverna was also very good. We just left La Somma and we are still digesting the amazing stay we had, a memory that will last a lifetime!! Thank you so much to the entire crew at La Somma!!

Beautiful, peaceful location. Excellent facilities - fabulous well cared for horses - exceptional scenery - varied riding trails with very little roadwork - nothing too much trouble attitude - lovely traditional local food and lots of it - super friendly and knowledgeable hosts and staff

The people were all so welcoming, even the ones who did not speak English tried really hard to be friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was amazing and the service was great too (loved the wine!). Accommodation was comfortable and the pool was nice. The horses were all well cared for and well behaved. I found my horse to be a good match for my riding; forward going and fun but still super responsive.

We had two jumping lessons and the horse and instructor were both great for that as well. I found the whole trip well organised and good value for money. I would definitely like to come again!

Most lovely, laid back, fun loving people, yet attentive and serious. Horeses were very well behaved and good taken care of. I love the spirit at Lå Somma, the scenery is amazing and the welcome was really nice. Even the most nervous rider is so well cared for at all times. We had a most delightful time in the hånds of Clara and her team of experienced guides.

La Somma is in a lovely location providing excellent and varied trails for riding through woods and hills on good, experienced, and trustworthy horses. The accommodation was really nice, comfortable and clean and despite no air con , I found it to be cool enough inside even though it was red hot weather. The pool just outside was a most welcome benefit for relaxing in down time. The food was excellent with a good range of continental style breakfast provided on site with lunch and dinner provided by a small restaurant just down the road. All the staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the La Somma experience and would not hesitate to recommend it and would go back anytime.

Amazing location, so peaceful. Lovely lovely people running La Somma. Very well behaved horses (but still energetic and agile!). Good food. Swimming pool very welcome on hot days. And all very well organised .

The entire place was incredible. The horses, food, and people were amazing. We felt very safe on the horses and they seemed very well taken care of. The food was incredible and the little restaurant that we ate at was great! Hope to go back some day.

I went for this holiday with my 7yo daughter. We were both delighted by the location and scenery of the place. The riding activities were as great as the outdoors. Valentina paid a lot of attention to my daughter. We had more than enough opportunities to exercise and ask questions. We changed horses quite a bit. The accommodation was just right. It had kitchen that we could use for meals. The doors went out directly to the pool (too cold to use at this time of year, but still).

As part of the package we dined in a restaurant nearby. Great cuisine and fantastic service with it.

It's great to have a rental car in the area to go to Spoleto, otherwise not much to do around.

Everything was perfect, location, quality of horses, ride routes, animal welfare, meals were fabulous and in line with rustic Italy.

Clare and Agostino were brilliant, more so with me being a novice, very very very pleased with the entire package.

Really did not want to leave, so much so, that we agreed an extra night and ride out which Clare and Agostino arranged, and Lorenzo guided us with the help of Sara at short notice. It was a fantastic ride to finish on, Grazie mille.

Special mention to Valentina for her tireless willingness to make our stay superb.

We really loved it and will be back again.

This relaxed family business runs smoothly and without hitches. Everyone was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We felt very welcome from the moment we were collected from the train station.

The stables and accommodation are set in the most gorgeous of settings with wonderful views. The swimming pool is a great size - perfect for an after ride swim.

I had two jump lessons which I really enjoyed and which filled me with confidence.

The horses are kind natured, fit and responsive - two of the best I’ve ridden in a long time.

The trails were varied and interesting, extremely enjoyable.

The food was home grown/reared - very tasty, especially the pasta! It was perfect!

The location, staff and horses were all fantastic. The mix of high meadows, woods and villages was beautiful and made the hacking varied and fun.

The evening hack up the hills for dinner and the return in the dark was really special and memorable. It was also fantastic to be able to hack but also have instruction in the school, including jumping. The instructors were very communicative and positive - they encouraged everyone regardless of ability.

My entire experience at La Somma was excellent. It started with being in contact with Clare, who was always swift with her email replies and helped to clear any concerns I had in visiting as a lone traveler. On arrival I was met by Valentina who is very welcoming and friendly and ensured I was happy throughout my stay, nothing was too much to ask. She introduced me to the family, who are all super lovely and made me feel like one of them.

I came specifically to jump. I couldn't ask for better horses to ride, who were forward going and honest when I (often) made mistakes. Andrea, my instructor was encouraging and constructive, and was thoughtful in the exercises he set up to help me improve my seat, and challenge me appropriately. Thanks Andrea - what a star! I also managed a full day trek, lunch in the mountains and scenery that was beautiful.

The food was delicious - pretty much everything homemade, home bred, home grown. Clara works miracles in the kitchen! I definitely did not go hungry.

Thank you to everyone at La Somma for having me, I will definitely be returning one day! (I'm from the UK, not the US as suggested above)

I can't recommend this place enough !

Authentic food, scenery and people. You really get a unique experience like no other. The horses were so well trained, and there was plenty of room for riders of all levels. The instructors really made sure that everyone got the most out of the trips. The horses were so well matched to our individual level and had a great temperament.

The food is unreal, and I've never had better Italian than this - everything is locally produced and most from their own farm. We sat down with the family who runs the place, and despite language barriers, they still managed to make us feel very welcome and well taken care off.

The trail riding was completely different from anything I've tried before, and just an amazing experience. Thanks for an incredible stay, I will be back!
