Day 2

Today's riding begins at 9.30 am and heads towards the river and ferry crossing with the horses into the Transkei. It is a 2 to 3 hour ride along the beach to Trennery's hotel where you will enjoy a lovely pub lunch. You return to Kei Mouth in the afternoon by an inland route.

Day 3

This morning is a lovely two and a half hour ride into the village of Morgan Bay where you explore the magnificent cliff tops before finishing with a canter down the beach.

Location

This horseback trail will take you exploring the sea side villages of Kei Mouth and Morgan Bay, and then across the Great Kei River on a ferry to Trennerys for a day of fabulous beach riding.

You are in an area known as “The Wild Coast” or the former home land of Transkei. This is now called Eastern Cape Province. The Wild Coast is the rugged, remote, fairly unpopulated stretch of South African coastline between East London and Port Edward, on the N2 between Durban in the north and Port Elizabeth in the south.

This stretch of some 280 kilometers of cliff faces, perfect beaches, and rich tidal estuaries is between the Mtamvuna River in the north, and the Great Kei River in the south. Inland, to the west, lie the Stormberg and Drakensberg mountain ranges, which reach on altitude of 2400 meters, descending to the Indian Ocean in the east. At the Wild Coast, the sun shines day after day, month after month, on this beautiful and extensive tract of undulating pastoral countryside studded with whitewashed, thatched rondavel huts.
